What a great episode! Such a pleasure listening to smart interesting adult conversation. Thank you.

Can you IMAGINE the meltdown if Black Panther does not win Best Popular film?

Thomas Rankin

Andy Williams “Happy Heart” - what the sixties actually sounded like. Another great podcast - hadn’t heard of Scotty Bowers - I’ve picked up the book.

Dave

Another great episode! I agree that the common people care less and less about the Oscars and the changes made will not change that. However it will still remain the most prestigious award and have significant impact for the future careers of those actors/directors/producers etc who wins it.. or get nominated. Matt was a great choice and I truly enjoyed his anecdotes and takes on the topics discussed.

Who is this “huge Hollywood star” that is secretly gay?

Paul Wood

Amazing episode. Just listened to this in the Fan in Richmond, VA - I had no idea you that lived here at one point.

Connor Burke

First, get rid of the MPAA...

Daniel Lares

Really liked this episode, thanks.

Jasper

I thought you would talk about Leonard Bernstein (100th birthday yesterday), who first hid his homosexuality because of the conservative nature of orchestra boards...

David Tomaszewski

Awesome episode! Thought-provoking as always.

Bill Condor

Great Episode - Insights Right On Track !

Less than Zero was banned!??...This episode is intriguing......Vanity Fair in the 90s was EVERYTHING. My mom had a subscription with free VF playing cards that I was goo goo over.

Gloie

Really good episode. I especially enjoyed the opening monologue. Like Bret I enjoyed and found value in the Oscars in my youth but the reason I’ve lost interest is not that film is a less popular medium these days. It’s that they’ve just become a platform for virtue signaling and far left screaming.

David Willis

District 9 .. dreadful??! Wtf Bret behave

Reptilian complex

I get why Bret doesn't approve of the voting system now used to determine best picture (which was news to me), but I think that in political contexts ranked-choice voting would make a lot of sense. As noted, ranked-choice voting leads to less extreme outcomes, outcomes that few people in the end will find totally objectionable. This seems to me to be good for politics, if bad for art.

David Kordahl

The Shape of Water is the only time in my lifetime the best film of the year won best film and I will defend that film to my death.

Ian Schultz

The noise could be any number of things: the board, a grounding issue in the room, the mics themselves, or the mic cords.

R. M.

Get rid of that board. Same noise and hum on all these new podcasts.

Joseph H.

Fuuccckkkkkkkk yeaaahhhhh!
