2018-08-29 20:13:13 +0000 UTCAnother great episode! I agree that the common people care less and less about the Oscars and the changes made will not change that. However it will still remain the most prestigious award and have significant impact for the future careers of those actors/directors/producers etc who wins it.. or get nominated. Matt was a great choice and I truly enjoyed his anecdotes and takes on the topics discussed.

2018-08-24 16:18:24 +0000 UTCReally good episode. I especially enjoyed the opening monologue. Like Bret I enjoyed and found value in the Oscars in my youth but the reason I’ve lost interest is not that film is a less popular medium these days. It’s that they’ve just become a platform for virtue signaling and far left screaming.

2018-08-24 09:53:20 +0000 UTCI get why Bret doesn't approve of the voting system now used to determine best picture (which was news to me), but I think that in political contexts ranked-choice voting would make a lot of sense. As noted, ranked-choice voting leads to less extreme outcomes, outcomes that few people in the end will find totally objectionable. This seems to me to be good for politics, if bad for art.

2018-08-24 01:38:06 +0000 UTCThe noise could be any number of things: the board, a grounding issue in the room, the mics themselves, or the mic cords.
