Can’t believe it’s been 6 years since mocking (or even observing) hysteria, off-the-rails derangement resulted in a “Trump supporter!” accusation. Are we beyond this now? Have we grown? Way to get after it, Bret.

2024-10-02 13:50:18 +0000 UTCIt's funny to me that Hitler is always referred to as a "failed artist." What is a "failed artist"? I think they mean that he couldn't make a living as an artist. Is that really a good measure of who is or isn't an artist? Have you ever seen a Hitler painting? I couldn't do better.

2021-08-18 01:33:34 +0000 UTCI had never heard of Alex Israel before this. His work looks like Miami Vice. Pastel air-brush? Apparently, he was a baby when Miami Vice was a VERY NEW THING. I call BS. People are generally stupid.

2021-08-18 00:14:31 +0000 UTCI am very late to this, I know. I used the listen to the podcast on the other site. I am now catching up on the Patreon podcasts, moving from oldest to newest. One of the things that always resonated with me was Bret's monologues about the insanity of the Left these days. I didn't vote for Trump either. I don't vote. That doesn't mean I support the insanity coming out of the US. Lots of these people have come to Mexico since the pandemic. And they are bringing this crazy with them. We are so unused to it here, that we don't know what to do except ignore it. Sigh... I really appreciate your open mind, Bret. You are a wonderful rarity these days. Rock on! ;)

2021-08-17 22:45:03 +0000 UTCI have to say, I saw the interview a long time ago, and I didn't get it. That was probably a joke for the audience. Alex seems like the kind of person who knows what he wants. I have been thinking of starting my own company because, like all of the art world, is getting smaller and smaller for people like me to get published. I would rather have a group of people published and working as a group as long as we can start a conversation, but then again, it's hard for artists today to do that. But I enjoyed the discussion again. Keep up the good work.

2018-08-14 07:37:30 +0000 UTCI google imaged the Alex Israel Bret Easton Ellis collaboration. Never seen it before. I loved it. LA is a city that is perfect for a dazzling visual and a opening sentence (from a short story). There's a distance and detachment to LA where it works.

2018-08-09 17:22:08 +0000 UTCWhen I said contender, I meant an oscar, because I would rather see MI:Fallout nominated than any other bullshit indie film that I'm not going to see.

2018-08-08 12:30:09 +0000 UTCI know that ever since I stopped watching the news, and the hysteria they create, I have been calmer. I know a few liberals who are becoming unbearable, and they haven't found a way to deal with it. I have come to think that they have become less tolerant every day, as you say on your podcasts. I can't wait to hear what you think of MI: Fallout. I think this is the best movie out of all the Mission Impossibles. I think he might be a contender for movie. I think Henry Cavill played such a great villain, which was different for him. He's really talented and needs to play more roles and diversify. I think the DC crowd can be more lenient with playing other roles than the Marvel actors can.

2018-08-08 12:21:12 +0000 UTCAlso, I've got to ask, in this episode Bret mentions that people are trying to get him banned from Patreon via petition. Is this true or was Bret speculating? Obviously, i'm against Bret getting banned off Patreon and I love the podcast.

2018-08-08 11:11:40 +0000 UTCAmazing first section. I am of the opinion (as is a good friend of mine) that the opening monologues wherein Bret discusses media, cinema and current events as some of the best stuff he has ever written. And this episode is no different. That's the first half. The interview was pretty uninteresting, in my opinion, nothing interesting was discussed - just a rundown of Israel's life and his artwork. I enjoy the interviews where you briefly discuss the interviewees work but centre it around your opinions on the media and cinema - with the locus on the subjects interests/work. It would have been cool if there was more of a relation to Israel's work WITH the state of art and cinema today - it also would've been cool to hear his opinions of current and old movies with commentary by Bret as a follow up. The interview slips away from the dictum that Bret stated in the past: that the podcast is a platform to discuss movies. That's primarily the reason as to why i was disappointed with the interview . That and because it was just a normal interview - something I would read in a magazine. But like I said, it was an excellent first section - those monologues just keep getting better.

2018-08-08 11:00:09 +0000 UTCI always feel it’s very gratifying when I agree with you on the podcast but I get a kick out of disagreeing with you, too. It’s kind of delicious just to hear someone say this stuff.

2018-08-08 10:41:32 +0000 UTCVery good episode. Agreed with most of your points about Gunn and Roseanne. Those firings make me terrified about the future of film considering the merger between Fox and Disney. I also really hope we get your detailed thoughts on the new Mission Impossible.

2018-08-08 10:26:45 +0000 UTCBrilliant monologue. Whats frightening is adults are afraid of discussing ideas. The right wingers used to behave like this. By doing this Trump will get re-elected easily. Bias in news has always existed. Fox was created because the big three networks were left leaning. Keep up the good work.

2018-08-08 02:44:14 +0000 UTCFantastic monologue Brett, very insightful. I have a few thoughts to share with you - it was mentioned that listeners had written to you - what is the best way to get in touch with fan mail/engagement with the podcast for gold subscribers? I'm hoping it's not just on these comment threads. If so, I can bare all here, but I'd rather not...anyhow, thanks again for a great ep and start to the week.
