Chapter 49 The Only Way is Up

I brought out Life’s avatar out in the Toukal transport tower, and it was all I could do not to rub my goddamn hands together. “So I can only hold 200,000EN at a time, I normally pull it in from a secondary source and send it into the console directly.”

“Then that is how we shall do it, Clive.” She put her hand on my shoulder. “I’m ready when you are.”

“Awesome.” I looked up to the ceiling in almost a prayer. “Are you ready, Aly?”

The console is ready, Clive. It is an automated process requiring no input from me.

“Good enough for me,” I replied and began pulling from Life. I met her avatar’s eyes. “Let me know if anything feels wrong or you want to stop. I’m watching for the count to go up to 450k on the display, but you keep watch too. Last thing we need is me taking too much and causing you an injury.”

“I’ll retain the 200,000 buffer, but point taken. I will be dutiful in watching.”

I felt the Neuma flowing through me in torrent of absolute power. I watched the counter. It hit 450k. “That’s it,” I shouted, but Life gripped my wrist.

“Not yet! There’s 14,000 more to take.”

“Of course! I had 14k already! Glad you’re here keeping me right, Life.”

I quickly did the math and that gave me another seven levels. Then as the counter on the display signaled 464,000EN, I pulled my hand away from Life, and she made no attempt to stop me this time. Which meant it was time to recoup what I’d just spent. The MN began to flow through both planted palms, pushed down firm onto the warm metal of the console.

I swallowed, hard. This was insane. Why did over 2000 points feel so much harder to distribute than 30 which I casually shot into Agility? And why was I freaking out? They’d all be full over the next month, one way or another.

I hit Intelligence first, bringing it to maximum level, then looked over the other stats. It hit me for the first time that all of them wouldn’t reach max level when I achieved a Divine Core.

I nodded at the numbers. There was no way I’d leave any of my Physical Stats lagging, apart from perhaps Constitution which, with Immortal Shell, I just didn’t need. It had gone from comfortably the most important to the least important stat during my time here to one of the least, despite a nagging feeling that I wasn’t seeing the full picture. That infuriated me considering all of the points I had in intelligence. It was also a problem to solve later. I moved on to Perception and took that to max before I focused on Charisma.
