For Your Eyes Only

This was a truly last second episode. To peal back the curtain, we realized weeks ago that there was just no time that we could get the whole Cabin in the Woods cast together at the same time and that we were going to need to record something else to interrupt it. Andy came in with a fun premise and we'd scheduled a recording and at the very last second someone booked a gig and had to pull out. Now we were left with no recording date and it was just six days before the end of the month with nothing even scheduled. I decided I didn't want to let June go by without an episode drop but I only had one afternoon available to record before the end of the month so I emailed all the regulars and asked who was free that afternoon, and the three people who raised a hand were Carolyn, Andy and Kara. I immediately knew what I needed to do. I had less than 24 hours to watch and prep it, none of the cast had a chance to watch the whole movie; we had everything stacked against us and yet I absolutely adore this episode.

I always knew that the insane chaos of Carolyn as James Bond was going to be a favorite of mine, but I didn't fully expect the vibes of these three performers all coming in with rambunctious energy. It was a true delight. And I'm always thrilled to close a longstanding promise, such as this one. Unfortunately we produce rerolls that deserve sequels more often than we can get to those sequels, especially in the days of mostly doing sponsored episodes.

For Your Eyes Only is also a funny movie to reroll, because it feels very familiar, but this is definitely one of the more obscure Bond movies. We get the benefit of playing with the character and the cultural concept of James Bond, without too much audience preconceptions about the specific story. I feel like this might be the most obscure Bond movie, it's a fairly grounded story in the midst of the era of absolute batshittery, so it has neither the recognition of being an over the top rollercoaster like Moonraker of Live and Let Die, nor the appeal of being a fan favorite, or at least being part of a good era of Bond. It gives us a lot of space to play in, and I'm excited to see where this goes.

Sorry again for the slow release cycle that has been Cabin in the Woods. Hope this one makes up for it.
