Cabin in the Woods

So as you might have noticed, we did not manage to get two episodes in this month as I had hoped. Apologies. We are working towards that goal, but between actors with opposite schedules, and me and Joz (who produce and edit this thing) being very booked, it has been a challenge to up the release tempo. Just please know that we're working towards that goal. For now, I hope that one episode a month and the B-Rolls will suffice.

Gosh I've been excited to get to this movie. The concept of making my actors reprise their previous rolls literally has been in my back pocket for like two years and I have been so excited to unleash it. It doesn't disappoint. There's definitely a weird chemistry they find between this group, even though prior to this session they hadn't had any reason to expect that these characters would actually know each other. It was a silly concept, but I kind of love just getting to hear these guys slip back into those old familiar characters, and see what strange dynamics start to form between them.

I did spend a good amount of time trying to figure out the ideal cast for the concept. I wanted it to be iconic characters played by my five most regular actors. They needed to fit the five archetypes from the movie (Athlete, Fool, Scholar, Virgin, Wh*re). They needed to be humans, with no superpowers, who exist in the modern day. I looked at a bunch of different arrangements, and decided that this was clearly the optimal set. How'd I do? Is there a different five-some that occurs to you to fit those archetypes?

Oh, and I haven't even gotten to the main course, the choice of monsters. I'll talk about that more next movie. In a way it was anti-climactic, because we did this in Goonies, but I went way farther with this one. More options. A more careful system of how to choose them. It was a lot of fun. I hope it comes accross.

Also, I have always hoped we would get some sort of LxG style ensemble episode. This is a fun excuse to do that.

Casting this is an interesting challenge. One of the things I liked about the original film is that they "cast their characters" against type, other than The Fool. The Virgin had an affair with her professor. The Athlete was more well read than his teachers and new specifically how to impress the professors. The Scholar is introduced as the next big star player for the football team. The Whore(dumb blonde) is pre-med. Also doesn't get as much play in the story. ...and the cherry on top. Type-casting The Fool is directly responsible for the plan falling apart.

I feel like anyone who has stuck with you guys knows to take the announced release schedule with a grain of salt, and i say that with so much love. Honestly it's a great opportunity for me to practice gratitude without expectations. I as a listener know you guys are doing your best and if the release doesn't happen there's undoubtedly a valid reason. I'm just jazzed whenever there's a new episode at all. But ESPECIALLY this movie. I'm so glad i lived to see this day.

Cannot wait to hear it!
