Tremors Part 4
Added 2024-08-24 03:05:34 +0000 UTCWe haven't had one with a tone this goofy in a while. It's really fun to put ourselves back in that kind of a mode. I've always felt that the Reroll ideally occupies a tonal space that's two levels wackier than the original movie. So if the original is dead serious, ours can be a little lighthearted, and if the original is silly ours can be downright goofball. There's a sort of medium-canonness to the more far-out silly things that happen on the show. You can take them literally that they're happening, or you can treat them as riffing happening in the room which isn't intended to be exactly what the character said. That's kind of the nature of the show, canon is in the eye of the beholder. But I do for that reason love the moments when something truly goofy gets locked in as having definitely happened and having irrefutable physical consequences in the world.
Tremors ends up being kind of a locked room story, where the locked room is the entire desert valley. It's a very simple premise really, and it's kind of a great set up for a game. Five enemies, lots of PC's with diverse skill sets who need to learn to work together. Of course, our characters immediately drive into berms and destroy their truck. But having played through it now, I do think that Tremors is one of the movies that would be the most fun for you to play at home. Simple premise. Clear challenge. Fun characters.
Hm, that brings up the question, what movies that we've done on the show make the best traditional RPG game setups. And by that I mean, would be the most fun for you to play at home if you're more interested in old-fashioned RPG gameplay than doing an improv comedy/storytelling exercise. My criteria being a clear challenge that is well balanced to the skills of the characters you have. Also, that wouldn't be insanely complex to prep. Here's my top seven:
7. Aliens
6. Oceans 11
5. Goonies
4. Tremors
3. Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid
2. Jumanji
1. The Rock
Anyway, one more episode of Tremors left. Then next on the docket is Last Unicorn. Talk to y'all soon!

MOTHER EFFIN LAST UNICORN AWWWWW YEA I love Aliens but would also love to play Andy Hoover's Alien, with the sequel being a legacy style continuation with tons of replay value.
