Fifth Element Part 7
Added 2024-05-30 05:24:12 +0000 UTCWell we've reached the conclusion of Fifth Element. This one was a little unique for me just because I have a deep affection and knowledge of the original. In the end it was nice to play in this world, but I have to admit I was harder on myself as a GM and storyteller because of my childhood love of the movie.
Some movies kind of funnel you down a path, and as much as I was ready with off-ramps that had the opportunity for dramatic interest, I always felt that the most likely path would take us back onto the movie. The dynamic of the different possible endings for what kind of a fifth element Leeloo could be added a nice bit of interest. (I'll leave it as an exercise for the reader to decide what Leeloo ultimately becomes in the actual movie). It is always a challenge in an RPG to play with mechanics that the characters don't know about, and in this case we had two: the timer, which they're aware of but don't know the specifics of, and the nature of Leeloo, which they're vaguely aware of. I don't think as a GM you should shy away from these sorts of mechanics, you just have to think hard about how to make them interesting.
Anyway, I enjoyed this one. Next in line a quick revisit to the world of Time Bandits before we jump into Tremors.

I thought that was a really interesting way to play around with Wild Talent and how it worked as a super-powerful character played by Joz, using her tendency to want to make things happen to really define where things go in the end.
