So, the first time through I really struggled with how Kiyoi treats Hira, but after the 4th or 5th time, I began to see that some of Kiyoi's words that he uses are really more inside jokes or nicknames. Like when he calls Hira "stalker" he's doing kind of a smiling smirk. Like when you lovingly call a friend of your by a really ridiculous nickname that harkens back to a special memory only you two share. Outsiders may not understand it, but you two do. And once you hear Kiyoi's side of things, it makes a little more sense.
