Welcome!

Going forward I wish to stay independent and continue to help developers, creators, consumers, and workers in the video game industry.

-Cold Take will continue on my YouTube channel as an investigative journalism and cultural deep dive video series

-I will spotlight more talented creators and developers on my Twitch and YouTube

-I will collaborate with other people who share the same goals as me

As for funding, one of my many faults is a strong desire to be involved while earning my keep

-Video game consultations and QA
-Content creator consultations

-Business consultations
-Voice over work

-Selling other videos and written pieces to various outlets

-YouTube monetization

-Twitch monetization

-Sponsors

And to not be a stubborn mule, I've opened up different ways to support me directly.

Currently, there are no extra perks offered aside from my gratitude. There are also no strict promises of a release schedule. Watch my content free of charge, and if you’d like to give something extra then feel free. I personally wish the stuff I make to remain readily available for everyone.

My goal with money is to put it back into my channels as well as use it to prop others up. Example: any excess money from consultations would let me offer a free consultation to a smaller up-and-comer that couldn't afford it, or provide them a sponsor slot free of charge.

Thank you for your time and your support.

I was a bit confused why Cold Take stopped on Second Wind. Good thing the algorithm showed me the new Cold Take

MissingNerd

May you have a bright future, you have given me great insight in the game industry and many laughs.

Just learning about this whole affair today, so I'll chime in in case it's not too late: I second points number 2 and 3. If I didn't already trust you, these things would make me much more willing to write off your reporting as petty and untrustworthy. I'm overlooking them and focusing on the good points because I really get where you're coming from (I saw a similar exit of a friend from the workplace. Too competent and honest to avoid pissing off the higher ups, too egalitarian and perceptive to avoid stepping on toes by being consistently right about things people didn't want to face). But, it's a real bad look and hurts your credibility. I'm subscribing to your patreon. And, I hope you take this feedback as a vote of support, because I want you to succeed.

Kyle E Johnson

Smooth voice, great content.

Adam

Happy to support you.

Nathaniel

You were the only reason I subscribed to second wind . So I am shifting my patron from them to you.

Life on Leo

Very much appreciate your efforts and willingness to stir up the waters when things aren't as they should be. The best to you~

Egor A. Palchyk

You were the reason I was, previously, subscribed to Second Wind Group. I look forward to Cold Takes, as you're able to release them, and suspect you'll put any funding you receive toward high quality and impact, be that content or not. Best of luck in everything you do.

Re: 3 Some of that section definitely seemed unnecessary, yeah. And, like, I get it. Some people there weren't just responding reactively to something they weren't expecting or weren't cognizant of, but seemed to have dogs in the fight. Highlighting that probably seemed important, because Frost has a history with all of them, but it was ultimately immaterial to the video's thesis and to Frost's goals. And for those that aren't actively playing the game, it generated some sympathy for them, and for SWG as a whole (and therefore for Nick, in a round-about way) in turn. Hopefully, at least, when Nick tries to do his schtick again with SWG, this video will have inoculated the others against his efforts. With any luck, the next news on any of this will be Nick resigning after thinking the coast was safe and being wrong about that. On to bigger and better fish!

Kichae

Good luck going independent, Frost! Cold Take was/is always with the wait!

Solljak

It's a wild thing, having stumbled into the first week of Second Wind and discovering that my favorite video game reviewer (three guesses who and the first two don't count) was going independent. Yet while his videos were engaging a new name emerged, one applying a critical discussion to topics as easily ignored as they are important. I'm by no means the only one here who has found Cold Take to be refreshing in it's discussion of the Video Games Industry and it's Review Industry both. They've been in dire need of illumination and I'll be damned if I'm not making sure to voice my appreciation! Thank You Frost. I wish you well in both Cold Take and everywhere else life takes you!

Dundin

Ah, so you can. For anyone else wondering, you do this by going to Settings -> Memberships -> View details (TheOtherFrost) -> Edit (Payment amount). Never did this before! But I looked into it and it seems Patreon takes 8% of earnings while Ko-fi only takes 5%, so I'll be switching to that and encourage anybody else who'd like to contribute larger amounts to do the same, if possible. Cheers!

Legal Hexadecimal

I think you can manually edit your amount to pay more, without having to have a higher tier. =)

Raptie

To be clear: I'm asking because I'd like to subscribe to the $50 tier (but probably not more than that). I've been watching ZP since 2010 and you're the only other creator on the channel whose content I've enjoyed because of the quality of your writing and delivery. I'd be more than happy to fully buy in to this next stage of your career.

Legal Hexadecimal

Any chance for $10, $25, or $50 tiers (with no difference in rewards)?

Legal Hexadecimal

>Example: any excess money from consultations would let me offer a free consultation to a smaller up-and-comer that couldn't afford it, or provide them a sponsor slot free of charge.  Paying it forward is the way to go, pal. There's a lot of shitty practices going on out there, and only so many wet wipes. You've got one hell of a mindset to do the work right, though. Good luck out there, my man. Thanks for doing the right thing. 😎

Connor Swenke

The original video raised enough red flags for me to pause my SWG pledge and wait for a response and further evidence. Having watched the second video and read SWG's responses to the first, I'm confident enough now to pull the trigger and send you the pledge that I was sending them. It seems like the allegations that most troubled me had receipts and weren't refuted at all by Nick or SWG. As someone who has represented workers in whistleblower and discrimination cases for the better part of the decade, let me give you some unsolicited (and hopefully not too condescending) feedback after watching the video. You did a great job making your case and I loved the history lesson connecting the Pulitzer era to gamergate, but I also saw some of the common pitfalls of people who advocate for themselves in situations like this. (1) You are underplaying your own contributions to SWG and the mistreatment you suffered there. I get that you don't want to make the story about you, but I think people are going to be more willing to buy the narrative that "Nick screwed over Frost" than "Nick should be cancelled because he's a fraud." Both could be true, but the first has a much lower burden of proof in the court of public opinion. Your videos were the second most profitable for a company that makes YouTube videos. Yet, you were low on the totem pole in terms of both compensation and authority (being shut out of things like analytics, choosing your own thumbnails, and not being consulted or informed about firing another owner). It seemed to me that donations were being fleeced by a group of way too many managers for a company so small, who were paying themselves for business leadership duties that they themselves admit they were not qualified to perform with their clown college degrees. Like they just imported the corporate middle management structure and pay scales from The Escapist despite moving to a fan-funded model that was supposed to be driven by creatives. To me, your experience showed that Nick hasn't changed much from the Gamumentary video. He financially benefits himself and monopolizes decisions because of his title as "boss" or "founder" while ignoring and shortchanging the people whose work actually builds the brand. To me, this was the most galling part of the video and ultimately the biggest driver for me to switch my donation over, but I had to read between the lines to get some of the details about how poorly you were treated in comparison to the value you gave them. In other words, I think you were probably trying too hard to paint yourself as the Upton Sinclair of SWG, when really you were the Jurgis Rudkus. (2) You're taking way too many pot shots. I know when you're in the middle of things like this it's hard to see the forest for the trees, but every moment of air time you give a weak argument, you weaken your credibility for the stronger ones. It gives people who are against you ammunition to say that you are "causing drama" or "have an axe to grind." Things like Nick keeping the steam keys or a VR headset or the chair are emblematic of a larger pattern of behavior, but I think by including them you are watering down more salient points about the non-disclosure of sponsors in his documentary and putting his thumb on the scale for review coverage--which at least to me were way more troubling. (3) You should lay off on your criticisms of the other SWG members. The last part of the video was definitely the hardest for me to watch, and what gave me the most hesitation in supporting you. I'm sympathetic that you wanted to offer a counter argument to the fact that 9 of 11 owners offered statements in support of Nick. But your approach of discrediting them one by one based on their past baggage, dishonesty, lack of moral character, etc. was really destructive and mean spirited. In any case like this, employees are going to back the company because to do anything else puts them at financial risk. Integrity is great, but I'm not holding someone to giving up their next meal for it. More fundamentally, you might be burning some bridges here that could help you down the road. Based on what you've shared about Nick, I assume he'll go looking for another scapegoat to blame and/or grunt to step up and make money once things take another downturn. That means that there's probably going to be another high profile exit or two in the coming months. If another face SWG fans love speaks out and backs your claims, then you've got a big free boost to your credibility. If you keep poking them in the eye now, they're more likely to just quietly move on rather than affirm your claims against Nick. When I've taken employment cases to trial, my best witnesses often gave statements against my client initially. I would have lost them if we had gone scorched earth at the first sign of opposition early in the case. Well, those are my thoughts for whatever they're worth. I'm sorry for what happened at SWG and you've convinced me that Nick is a toxic person. However, I think it's time to let the matter rest barring major further developments and move on to exposing corruption that isn't quite so close to your backyard. Best of luck to you, and looking forward to future videos!

Jesse Wilkison

Godspeed gamer. Followed since the SMITE videos and excited to see the new independent frost. Best of luck keeping clean of the culture war muck while you're raking it.

Deadword

Man honestly if you keep to what you said in the video I am 100% here for it. Keep up the good work.

Jeff Stan

Honestly, Cold Take ended up being about 30% of what I enjoyed about SW (DD and FR being the other 2/3), so I'm here for you, man.

Jakob

There you go, my 1$ tax to view you with ad-block. Or rather viewing stuff made by you since I am not a weird person.

Chin Chilla

Gladly drink your cold brews, Frost.

Kevin U.

Happy to support you in your next chapter Frost. I love cold take and will be patiently waiting for it's return :)

Chris Hill

I love cold take, those are excellent videos. Hope it works out well for you!
