I Bought A Cyber Truck And All I Got Was This Brown T-Shirt (feat. Victoria Scott)

Automotive journalist Victoria Scott joins us to talk about Tesla’s ailing fortunes, and the new cottage industry appearing in the media of articles to the effect of “I bought the Nazi car and everyone keeps calling me a nazi.” Additionally, the new American century, Starmer’s (non) diplomacy, and showing the entire country a video.

Saw Afghanistan also got a 10% tariff, meaning that all of Starmer's schmoozing and kissing boot only made him as popular as the Taliban

Carley They/Themsen

Listening to this reminded me of the dumbest guy I met at a party who bragged about pre-ordering a cybertruck he absolutely couldn't afford because he believed he could sell the pre-order slot to a Tesla enthusiast, he also talked about almost getting fired/arrested for bringing out brass knuckles during a fight at a bar he was working at

Tessa Siddle

oh, for TF hot-takes on the cardboard testicle that is Christopher "David Brent" Luxon and his troika of trumpy terror

Mob King

It’s one banana, Michael, what could it cost? 10 dollars? But now real life

Petrorenminbi

the starmer "i dont talk about my family" thing is a funny parallel with embattled nz pm luxon, who constantly said during the campaign "dont talk about my wife, we're very private" then rolls her out for a photo op every week on instagram when a new scandal hits

Ivy Morgan

You gotta Jailbreak the Teslur

Amazed that their bit on Adolescence developed the concept of both the Insen (incel onsen) and the Noncen (nonce onsen) within 30 seconds

Jermy

Driving broken down Honda fits forever… fuck, I’m already doing that now

Jermy

To be clear if my high school students wrote like the dude in this article I would write home and ask them to try again But also Riley, passive voice, B-

Trump promoting tins of beans eating yet again

Disco Elysium had the hat that makes you more communist. Trump has the orb that makes you Maoist

Noblesse Oblahaj

on a more serious note, it is both absolutely insane that capital has not stopped any of this from happening through a targeted strike at trump (political or otherwise), and entirely predictable because the fascism appears to have enough support among the people who could actually pull that lever.

Nina

‘feasting on each other’s skulls’ — has November forgotten about the prions?? is that how serious things are??

Nina

Riley might be on to something with the ChatGPT origin of the tariffs. Newsweek is reporting (well repeating things people have said on Twitter/Bluesky) that the tariff plan is what you get if you ask ChatGPT to fix US trade deficits using tariffs. Including the fact that you get back uninhabited Islands in the result. I don't know if this is true but it's a terrifying thought that western governments are going to start putting glue on their pizzas.

Michael S

Slap a “this machine kills fascists” sticker on your nearest Tesla today!

I dont know about US but my and 30000 other Kia EV6 in Europe are broken down waiting on parts for almost 3 month now

it has to be a very specific younger, white, blonde suburbanite type with enough free cash but not classy enough to do better, and I guess not liberal enough to go to target?, but yes.

Left on Read suggestion since one or more hosts don't understand the deep state as it exists in the U.S. - This Vast Southern Empire by Matt Karp. (Spoilers: it's not Turkey)

i felt sad hearing this knowing i bought an old mini bc i couldn’t find a broken Fit in my budget

“Tesla has taken a reich turn” is my favorite quote of the week, if not the month or possibly year. I really want to meet the guy who is enthralled with the CyberTruck. Yeah, who didn’t think a Nazi salute at the inauguration would hurt the stock price and/or the resale value? I don’t have anything to do with the company or its products and even I knew that wasn’t going to turn out well.

Phillip Alden

I know there was a Q&A show a while ago but I've been wanting to ask for a big list of books the hosts recommend, ranging from fiction to nonfiction. I've gotten some great recommendations from the show and would love to get a list of books the hosts have found helpful and instructive.

Callum McDougall

It's really ironic that the people who bought the most "personal assault vehicle" car on sale are the most pissy about having any disapproval thrown their way.

Insom

"Volkshalle" absolutely sent me

Jacob Barlow

Those Cybertruck articles were becoming so common I assumed they were a purchasable extra st the dealership, the "appear as a victim in a publication" option

Juji Gatame

Cracking open someone's skull and finding the FIFA orb was the plot to Phantasm 3.

James Rule

The Cybertruck article feels like something I'd write to make fun of Cybertruck owners. I can only imagine this man and his family as soyjacks.

Grease Wizard

Disturbing levels of parasocial relationship as I simultaneously said the same joke about the transmission in my mind

Inconspicuous old man and mime

Hearing "everyone's going to be driving broken honda fits" while driving my broken Honda fit lol

Rhobot

also they should make the Cybertruck For Troops a special tech in hoi4 that just takes 50% attrition constantly (100% in wet conditions)

marilyn

ugghhhhhh throughout the article about the cybertruck owner I just heard the words "I FUCKING LOVE SCIENCE" pounding in my head over and over again, the 2010s were a mistake

Victoria Scott talking about the cyber truck like the burning dumpster that it is gives me life.

Matt Hope

Not related to this episode specifically, but I need to tell you guys that I probably heard you mention the "Tony Blair Institute for Global Change" a dozen times before I realized that it's a real thing, and not a running inside joke. Anyhow: I love you all, love the show, keep up the good work, and FREE PALISTINE!

Dave
