2022-10-21 21:36:33 +0000 UTCThanks Riley, awesome coverage! I am based in the U.S, grew up here but was born in Europe and have family in the U.K, Germany and Italy. I produce a little in the genre, with the multitude of "probable" changes coming to the space, some of it rather inexorably fear inducing, i.e. AI generated emotionless "junk music", WEB 3 etc. I wonder how much of the gentrification is pre-planned in terms of shaping the industry as a whole with said technologies with an added spice of real-estate speculation, this can quickly turn into a "We Work" formula in terms of production studios, and I'd imagine would effect podcasting and other more independent broadcast mediums. I am sociology major and find it fascinating how consistently cultural norms have been hijacked and prescribed for those who can afford it after the genres have been created and made popular by artists who are basically on the verge of homelessness in many cases, with the obvious cascading effect of marginalizing everyone in that area that doesn't meet a capitol threshold. Not that housing isn't exponentially growing more expensive already etc. etc.
