I'm looking to post all the old speedpaints I've collected over time so we have a little archive of how some of these works came to be. I think this was the first one I ever recorded, so I sadly only have a sped up version, but longer versions of other vids will be coming for my fellow Grimport Residents in the future!
I still love the idea behind this a lot <3 execution could have been better, and you can see how much issues I've had with Rick's face and light here haha. I do love looking back on these speedpaints a lot, I feel like I can learn a lot from them and see where I've made some mistakes, how I can improve, what I struggled with the most, etc.

As for Maggie and Rick, I talk a LOT about them and their relationship is one of the side plots in pretty much the entire Grimport Misfits series. They are both pretty complicated characters with significant flaws and virtues which kind of go hand-in-hand. Although rarely who from the Kostrov family wanted to admit it, they were all slightly codependent, and not always in the best of ways.
This is, sadly, because all of them have gone through some form of trauma. Their family wouldn't exist without the tough roads in life, and once they have found peace in one another, it was often difficult for any of them to stay apart, which proved troublesome when each of them also faced a lot of individual issues they simply didn't always deal with all that well.
Maggie was no different. She arguably had a pretty normal childhood compared to the rest of them (excluding the death of her mother), mostly because Rick was so obsessed with giving Maggie the absolute best childhood any child could ever wish for, more so after they have lost Loretta. It was a difficult situation since he, himself, was struggling mentally, and struggled quite significantly, so Maggie grew up witnessing only the best sides of her father, the kindness, the fun times, the love and support... yet she always knew, deep down, that he wasn't being honest with her, not entirely. Not about his own experiences.
She grew up to understand he did what he had to do in order to protect her from the immense amount of troubles they were in back when she was only a little kid, but she grew to resent Rick's lies eventually, seeing him crumble before her very eyes once he started succumbing to his addiction and letting his mask slip a bit more often. She couldn't fathom not having her father be her support, yet felt as if she had to detach herself from his experiences until he decides he would drop the act and finally speak honestly about his struggles, well into her teenage years. She watched him grow more and more paranoid, isolating her and their entire family during his episodes, and couldn't stand his behavior anymore.
Their relationship would hit a sudden wall once a car accident nearly takes his life. To a part, it forced Maggie to become incredibly sensitive to his wellbeing. She never shook off this feeling of nearly losing her father in a split of a second, the most important person in her life, and largely began overlooking a lot of his issues she was more than justified calling out. Seemingly, their relationship flourished, becoming what it was back when she was just a little kid, but only because Maggie refused to see Rick's flaws as problems in need of fixing, fearing she'd lose the precious time she has with him.
It would take a few years and a lot of turmoil before they really healed their relationship properly, a lot of which happened after Maggie's and Mike's child was born, and Rick finally started working on his sobriety, but that's a story for another time <3

ahh thank youu, I'm so glad this was an interesting read ❤️ it's one of my favorite topics really, so it means a lot! And yeah, I really do believe they all just did their best, but their best sometimes sadly just wasn't enough. But that's okay, they kept trying and figured it out eventually ❤️ their relationship is definitely going to be a little part of the books, so I'm looking forward to it!

2024-05-07 05:06:33 +0000 UTCI got so much info about Maggie in this post - I - am - speechless ✋🏻😔 - Incredible. Ufff, I want to read more about here & to know the conversations they had to go through all of their life events. Based in Rick's animations and illustrations, I can see he definitely took the roll of a good father in the best way he could. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
