I can respect that, but personally I like a book a lot more if it has a romance subplot. It just adds more depth to the whole story and after reading hundreds of books with no romance or limited, poorly written romance I love to see an author actually be willing to acknowledge that even the protagonist needs relationships beyond the platonic.
