86 (Eighty Six) S1 Episode 20 Reaction

NO WILL TO SURVIVE... Frederica & Raiden came in clutch, confronting Shin to make him acknowledge the fact he's regressed as an individual, that he's closed himself off from others & barely relies on anyone right now, and even that he doesn't plan to survive & see what the future holds. I adore how the show made it clear how night & day Shin's acting, when it comes to the first suicide mission & right now, and that just stresses how important Lena's existence was to him. He was able to entrust himself to someone else who could carry that burden, which wasn't possible for his Eighty Six comrades. I can't wait to see the inevitable reunion between them, to see how he'll react as the void within him is filled up once again.

Still very happy with the amount of incredible character moments we got this time around, definitely needed amidst so much fast-paced action and death, though I still feel a core member of Spearhead will perish... this show doesn't let us be happy or at peace for very long after all!

Holy shit... wish they made this more apparent in the anime, it would've definitely been very impactful. I do love what they've done thus far, don't get me wrong, but this info just hits hard, especially the bit about some fellow 86 taking their own lives...

It’s mentioned in the LNs that fellow 86ers hated Shin because he was pretty much the embodiment of death. If the Reaper joined your squad, it was basically a sign ya’ll are dying. Some committed suicide when they resonated with him, or never resonated again after connecting, forgoing Shin’s protection and dying regardless. The only other one able to survive is Raiden. Furthermore, he was also discriminated against because of his hair and eye color. It was evident he possessed the blood of the old Empire’s nobility; the ones that created the Legion. All in all, Shin truly believes the reason his parents, brother, and comrades die is because of him. And that’s just a very deep hole of survivor's guilt one can't easily climb out of.
