"I love how free Latex makes me feel" – interview with Trisha Rubber Doll

"I like the feeling of hiding my day-to-day identity behind my mask and stand as a kinky sub rubber doll. All my insecurities and fears just fade away." In "Ask A Rubberist" series (check through the tag below) I talk to people about their deeper connection with latex and all the things it means for their sexuality, creativity and identity. The latest interview is with Trisha Rubber Doll.  Enjoy <3

Never underestimate the power of a latex hood. It's not only an intricately crafted shiny way to disguise yourself, but a resource to play with different identities and experiences. For Trisha Rubber Doll, latex is connected to creativity, sense of self and BDSM play. In that sense, latex is the opposite of dress up – more a way of discovering different layers within ourselves. I talked to Trisha about analogue photography, gear and the freeing effect of latex.

How did you discover latex?

I discovered Latex long ago, when I was a teenager, by looking at goth and alt models photos on the internet but I still didn't know what BDSM was and I didn't relate it to it. It was around 3 years ago when I met a guy who was into domination and Latex who introduced me to this amazing world and I got obsessed with it.

What do you love most about latex?

I love how free it makes me feel. When I dress on completely in Latex I feel dehumanized and objectified. I like the feeling of hiding my day-to-day identity behind my mask and stand as a kinky sub rubber doll. All my insecurities and fears just fade away. I make a ritual of getting dressed up in Latex if something special is going on. It is sometimes a therapy for me if I mix it with BDSM.

When and why did you start your Instagram account - and why did you feel like it was important to make it part of your creativity and show it to the world?

I started my account when I bought my Latex mask almost one year ago. I really wanted to be a RubberDoll and create content. Almost all my sets are focused on analog photography which I love and also enjoy shooting.

But Trisha is more than just photos. It's part of my identity and who I am. I don't want to focus only in aesthetics, but also on BDSM practices and more. At the moment I'm super busy with other projects and I can't invest much time in discovering new games and forms of being dominated. But I look forward to it.

Creating content to sell has also helped me to go through a tough economic time when I needed it. But it's not the main reason of why I'm doing this, it's just an extra source I use sometimes.

How do you come up with ideas for shoots? Is it spontaneous or more planned?

I could say 50/50. Sometimes the photographer and I meet and improvise. If there's bondage practices involved, they're normally planned before, but we also get carried away and do what we feel in the moment.

Id like to start shooting in public spots, collaborate with other Latex models and try out new Latex gear on my body like: heavy rubber, vaccum beds, Latex breath play – and incorporate it in my shoots. But where it is not easy to find these kind of things in a place where I live, there's not many people here with Latex and it's too expensive for me to have as much as I want to. So little by little...

What was your favourite shoot up to this day?

It's hard for me to choose but I could say some of my fav ones are my photos with my friends @lucia_lamata who has been the first one who ever shot me in Latex and has always made me feel super comfortable in all sets, and @trve.vice who has a very delicate and special way to shoot film. I'm also in love with the captions from a shibari/kinbaku clip @ilegalph recorded with my mate @guinju.gaijin. Remembering the feeling of it mesmerizes me. Mixing ropes with Latex and some flogging is a super nice feeling that really turns me on.

I wish I could plan trips soon to shoot with @the.london.vagabond, @sweetnoisefilm or @__huume and create some cool stuff. They're probably my favourite fetish photographers.
I would also love to collab and meet other rubber beings such as @bloodshrimp or @lola_noir_.

What is your favourite latex item?

At the moment my Latex hood is my most precious asset. I don't own many Latex gear because it's super expensive and I can't afford it to be honest. My catsuit broke and I'm looking forward to invest on a new one as soon as I can.
