I adore how this two-part storyline concluded, everything was connected by a single pair of jade earrings as it turns out... it was a truly beautiful and emotional moment to see the ghost of Xiaocui regain her sense of self upon the earrings being reunited, and seeing her beloved Guohao one final time before passing on.
It was this also this request that awarded Gaojun enough legal reason to prosecute the Empress Dowager, and subsequently execute her on the grounds of treason and attempted assassination as the evidence came from news overheard by Guohao's eavesdropping as he snuck into the Imperial Palace! I don't trust that this will be the last we'll see/hear of her, however, as tyrannical people like herself don't easily give up power, even in their last moments... plus this show does have a supernatural element after all!
I want to add, the opening scene depicting young Shouxue fleeing soldiers with her mother, dying their hair black, being forced to hide separate... and then, eventually coming across her head was straight up devastating, a real gut punch of feels.
