Arknights (Prelude to Dawn) S1 Episode 1 Reaction

So, I decided to check out this series after all, and turns out, the atmosphere and characters are definitely right up my alley! I don't have any notable experience with the mobile game so this is my first time with this universe. I do wonder what'll happen next, a catastrophe's inbound, so is it a storm or something else entirely? What did you think of this premiere?

I thought I responded to this, holy crap, but apparently I didn't! I appreciate the information, definitely helps me understand more about finer details. I'd say that manner of tower defense you're describing is pretty interesting, definitely feels like it was translated well into the anime then imo So far, I am truly digging the show and I want more of the world, so fingers crossed we get more Arknights anime after this concludes! I can also appreciate that the game makes you really think instead of locking people out with pay-to-win units instead, very nice mindset the developers have tbh! It's nice, I'll admit, especially since it also helps prevent the issue of "guy vs girl alternate MCs" and fandoms getting up in arms over whichever was chosen as an MC, it happens a lot with mobile game adaptations

Just some non-spoilery stuff about the game from a big fan of it that you talked about. The game is a tower defense but it's not really a traditional one, instead of building a bunch of towers and upgrading them you have a set group of units that you need to strategically place and recall them. The fight with the doctor commanding felt like they translated that idea pretty well to an animated format. The studio making this is the one making the game they've done some shorts before this but this is their first time doing a full anime I believe. Was a bit worried going into it but they're doing a good job so far they obviously got a lot of worldbuilding and exposition to set up. And since they're making it themselves makes me hopeful we'll get more of the game's story. The game does get difficult once you start getting to a lot of the later stuff, and it's not like a difficult where you just need to get the rare gacha units but actual strategic difficulty where you can beat it with the easy-to-get units everyone has that not uncommonly fill a specific useful niche that even rarer units don't fill. Yeah, the doctor is made to be pretty ambiguous if they're a guy or a girl so a bit of a self insert but they're not like a blank slate and do have their own personality.
