Ezekiel returned home after his spell practice. He called everyone and started their lessons for that night. When the lesson was finished, he stopped the three boys from leaving.
“There’s going to be another lesson for the three of you. It’s the language of magic that allowed me to cast spells. It doesn’t mean that it will turn you into wizards, but the language will allow us to talk to each other using a secret language, and not only that, once you learn how to speak and write it, there will be a huge surprise that will change your life!”
“What is it?” Robert asked with wide eyes.
“I can’t tell you yet, not until you learn how to understand the magic language.”
Ezekiel then gave the boys a book each, which was the book that he had purchased to learn English. The books had colorful drawings that amused the three boys. He was thankful that his brothers and Simon didn’t complain, and more than likely, it was because of the idea that the language was the magic language that he was using to cast spells.
Even after the lesson was done, the boys kept looking at the basic spelling and grammar book that he gave them. After a while, he told them that it was time for dinner, so he retrieved food from his 4th tab space, and they started eating.
For the next three days, their life on the road remained the same. Every other morning, Simon would hunt some game animals then he would return before lunch. On the road, the boys would be playing or napping, depending on the hour and Ezekiel would spend his time reading his system browser to review his spells or browse the items that he could purchase from his system store while Simon kept driving their cart.
They still hadn’t encountered any travelers, which Ezekiel found truly odd. Simon reassured him that it was normal for this time of the year in this area.
When the sun set, Simon would find a location where Ezekiel could cast his Galder’s Tower spell then they would use the night time to clean their cart, feed, water and brush Prince Charming, butcher the game animals that Simon hunted, learn their letters for the local language and for English, eat the delicious dinner that Ezekiel had cooked and stored in his 4th tab space and then to rest their weary heads.
After three days of travel, they arrived at a lake. It was one of the most beautiful bodies of water that Ezekiel had seen. He decided that they would stay in the lake for several days. Ezekiel would spend the time cooking all the food that Simon had hunted, and besides, the stored bento boxes would only last them for a week, given the amount they ate every meal.
At first, Robert and Luke wanted to swim in the lake, but Ezekiel told them that there might be some wild animals deep in it, like crocodiles or snakes or even fish that were large enough to swallow them whole.
“You can just kill them using magic!” Robert complained.
“I will be busy cooking our food! I could ask Yuki Onna or the knives to look after you, but then again, once you were swallowed by a fish, it would be very difficult for them to rescue you underwater,” Ezekiel told him sternly.
“Don’t worry, Robert, Luke, I’ll teach you how to fish and we can eat some fish tonight!” Simon told the boys and the two boys got excited.
By request, Ezekiel purchased some twine that they could use for fishing. He would have brought them some good fishing equipment, but he would then have had to take the time to study how to use it so he could teach the boys, so he just followed Simon’s request and purchased the twine.
On the first day that they were staying near the lake, the boys ran off with Simon to fish in the lake. Ezekiel commanded Yuki Onna to follow them to guard them as well as all the awakened butcher knives.
In the meantime, Ezekiel began reviewing the first recipes that he was planning to cook that day. He would have asked Simon to help him cook, but because Simon told his brothers that he would teach them to fish, he had no choice but to allow them to go to the lake.
He purchased all the things that he would use for cooking that day, and all of his purchases amounted to a whopping 5 silver coins so far. He needed to purchase a second and a third gas-fueled stove so he could cook multiple recipes. He also purchased rice since most of the meals that he cooked were accompanied by rice. He was influenced by his neighbors from Asia when he was younger, who ate rice with every meal. He also bought all the ingredients that he would need so far for the current recipes that he would cook.
Ezekiel also purchased the storage container that he would use to store the food. He did plan to create storage bowls from wood but he simply didn’t have the time to do so.
The first thing that he did was to steam rice. Then he started cutting the boar meat, following the recipe that he was reading from the internet. Once he was done with those, he prepared all the ingredients that he would use together with all of the spices that he purchased.
He knew that the expenses that he would spend would climb up, but he wouldn’t shortchange themselves when it came to food.
When the steamed rice was cooked, he transferred it to a huge storage bowl, closed the lid and immediately stored it in his 4th tab space so it would remain fresh and then he steamed another batch of rice.
The smell of the braised pork that he cooked with potatoes, carrots, and other mix of vegetables filled the air when it was done, and he heard running footsteps outside the house and knew that his brothers and Simon must have smelled it.
“What is that! It smells so good!” Robert shouted when he entered the kitchen.
Ezekiel kept the door open so the boys did not have to slam it when they barged in.
“Brother, I’m hungry!” Luke shouted as well.
It was only around ten in the morning, and they did eat breakfast, but the smell of the cooked braised pork must have smelled so delicious that the boys wanted to eat again.
“Fine, I’ll let you eat the first thing that I cooked, but you have to wash your hands first.”
Robert, Luke, and Simon ran to the sink to wash their hands with soap and water, then they sat at the dining table. Ezekiel served them rice on plates and a bowl of braised pork each. After that, Ezekiel transferred the rest to a storage bowl and stored it in his 4th tab space.
Based on the three boys' expressions, they liked the braised pork that Ezekiel cooked, so he prepared to cook another pot of it. He also kept steaming rice since he planned to steam a lot of it that day.
Ezekiel planned to bake a lot of bread tomorrow, so that day was rice cooking day.
After the boys were done eating, they all ran off to the lake to continue their fishing, leaving the dirty dishes on the table.
Ezekiel looked at the dishes exasperatedly and cleaned them immediately using his Prestidigitation spell then stored them in his 4th tab space.
After the second pot of braised pork was cooked, Ezekiel thought of cooking a new recipe, but decided to cook a third batch since the ingredients and the meat were prepared already. He would cook a new recipe after lunch.
When lunchtime arrived, Robert, Luke, and Simon didn’t return home and were still busy fishing. More than likely, it was because they weren’t hungry yet, and since Ezekiel didn’t join them earlier when they ate, he ate lunch alone.
The moment he tasted his braised pork filled with potatoes, carrots, and other stuff, he praised himself for being a good cook.
When he was done eating, he cleaned his dishes and began preparing to cook another dish. The second dish that he was planning to cook was fried chicken, or in this case, fried pheasant. He prepared a lot of it and began the arduous process of frying them, making sure that every piece was perfectly fried.
The good thing about being a wizard was that he could cast his spells to cook, so by using the Mage Hand spell, he was able to fry and season the pheasant to perfection. He continued steaming rice and prepared the sauces that would accompany the fried pheasant, and once they were all done, he stored them immediately since he wanted to make sure that all the food that he was cooking would remain as fresh as the minute they came out of the stove.
The boys barged in again, and when Ezekiel checked the time, it was already 2 in the afternoon. This time, Simon was carrying a bucket that had some fishes. He asked Simon to kill the fish so he could store them in his 4th tab space, and the man immediately did.
To be honest, Ezekiel didn’t like fish but would cook them following the recipes that he would search on the internet.
