I agree; with horror at large, to often I find that writers over explain the horror elements, they lean to far into trends, don't lean enough into the atmospheric aspect. I feel that a haunting ambience does more than the scary loud clown jump scare (IT the original film vs the remake) A example of overplaying the horror hand and explaining too much to you would be the Amnesia games. I was a huge fan of the first game, but as the series went on, I felt that everything that made the first game scary, became explainable and less scary. The horror becomes mundane. With horror, less is often more.
