Updates

Hi all,
Sorry about the lack of posts here. Let me tell you what's been going on.

So Patreon has started requiring identity verification for all adult-content on the platform to "ensure no minors or non-consenting parties" are appearing in content. I gather it has something to do with laws in one the states that wants to hold hosting websites responsible for their content.

Patreon has decided to enforce this with a third party website who will screen creators age with government ID and literally a selfie. They note that they just need a birthdate, name and photo.

Now obviously this is already a little unsavory for adult creators who probably don't want to be identified alongside their work. Especially since there is literally no way to have non-consenting parties appear in artwork of fictional characters so it's hard to see how identification is necessary.

So anyway, already pretty dubious, I went through the identification process. I used a driver's license. However there's other info on a driver's license that I REALLY don't want associated with my adult content, such as home address. I covered those areas of the identification, leaving just the info requested by Patreon. Initially, just covering with a finger was not allowed. So instead I just used small censor bars.

It was difficult to get the automated process to accept the ID even then, and then subsequently, rejected with no explanation.

So yeah I'm getting a little weirded out by this process that seems to really want to dox me. I'm thinking of migrating platforms, which I really hate to do. I have some ideas about how I could make this up to you guys, who have been amazing support, such as uploading all the pics to a drive for easy download, and making the first few months free while people that wanted to come along made the change.

Do you all have any other platforms that you prefer to support creators on? Or thoughts about this whole issue?

Fair warning about Subscribestar, I've heard horror stories of creators going months waiting for their account to get verified and meanwhile they can't get paid.

Ugh yeah that sounds shady af. I'd say check out subscribestar. They don't make things quite as streamlined for users, but at least they're not as far into the enshittification process than patreon are.
