Yeah, it takes a little bit to get going but that's pretty common for these modern plot-driven kids' cartoons. Most examples of this sort of show (at least that I've seen) are like 90% shenanigans for the first season, then start getting into the actual meat somewhere near the end of season 1 or start of season 2. Owl House, Amphibia, Steven Universe, probably others I'm forgetting, all follow that pattern.
