More Art, Markov Name Generation, Quest Work
Added 2022-01-13 20:44:50 +0000 UTCWelcome to 2022! We didn't intend for each day on earth to become thematically more similar to Glumdark, but here we are.
We took off just a little time for the holidays, but we're back at work grinding out new Glumdark content.
New original art
First and foremost, we've got some original art from a mainstay of the Mörk Borg community: Vil. He created a couple of truly haunting images for the Normal People and Curses tables.
We also have a new piece of art from a dramatically less talented artist: me. A horrible squid-thing.

Names Names Names
McGlintlock was interested in working with markov chains to generate new content dynamically. So we started playing around with name generation. First, we just grabbed a list of names from various cultures which seemed appropriate to grim fantasy themes but the results were underwhelming. I then built a tool that would allow you to generate fantasy names from subsets of nationalities you'd choose, but that also turned out sort of lame. Finally, we just hand-wrote and selected several hundred names that we thought were cool, and now we have a working name generator that spits out some neat stuff, like:
- Artemos Kwinn
- Jafet Underfood
- Bastiaan Westudino
- Walf Flee
- Rut Tanzik
Each time you refresh the page at Names Names Names, Glumdark will generate an entirely new list of names in memory. These are also a lot cooler than the names that were originally in the NPC Generator, so I changed that endpoint to use this as well.
Quest Generator
Still working on it! More stuff being added all the time, but it's quite complicated. Have a look.
