This MAYBE my least favorite episode, but I still liked it!

😀👍🏼

Bernabee

too bad you didnt love it. Its my favourite "fight" in all of jojos. probably because I watched a hilarious yugioh exodia edit of this battle on youtube before starting jojos :D

Sejad Lulic

This is actually one of my favourite episodes from this part. I like how it's all cheating and mind games.

Westerschwelle

Thanks for clarifying further

In poker if the last two people are going at it and one person bets all their chips but the other person has more, they can match or raise. Now bc the other person is out of chips doesn't mean they have to fold. They can either buy in more or call. If the person with less chips wins they just get the pot minus the amount raised over what they could put in. (I've played like this before, but this could be different for others.) The point of betting is just a bluffing strategy to get your opponent to quit/fold, doesn't necessarily matter how much you bet. It's all just psychological and confidence. I hope this makes sense.

Monkiebizz

not only that, but once we see what DIO's stand can do that adds a layer of justification to d'Arby's fear, I won't elaborate for obvious reasons

yo 5x

Not at all! Though I think 5 is my personal favourite, another great part where the MC is not quite who the story is about! (just to clarify I only meant this Darby fight was weak compared to the ova, not the overall part, Stardust Crusaders for life! :p)

Armani_Glasses

If I told you part 4 and 5 were the weaker parts to me and 3 was stronger would that shock you lol it's not an objective opinion

Alot of people ask the same time in the beginning as well, what was the point of showing jotaro could read all the cards with star platinum? Just to show star platinum's fast reflexes are the least of derby's concerns if he attempts to cheat against him. It's not always just to be cool, he's just built cool 😂 He won because he intimidated darby into folding, not because darby couldn't bet more (he couldn't risk dio finding out he told jotaro and gang about his stand). I think there was a misunderstanding about what's at stake here like, the point of the whole fight was the tension. Darby cannot reveal dio's stand ability so he will lose.

Jihye Im

I don't think the understanding poker really messes up the understanding of the fight I'll be so honest, it's more of a misunderstanding of fight motives lmao

Jihye Im

Jotaro betting on his mom's soul was a big all in or nothing, it doesn't work if he just bet a random person (the whole reason for this trip to Egypt is to save his mother), if he lost to darby his mom would have died either way (a lot of people misunderstand this) it was to intimidate darby into losing, it's a different take on this fight for sure. It has less to do with how poker actually works and just jotaro playing mind games with darby, the reason why this fight is a favourite is because its one of the fights jotaro doesn't punch his way out to win and people find that really interesting

Jihye Im

I definitely love me some Jotaro clowning on ANYBODY ❤️

Matthew Curry

Appreciate you breaking it down, it's why I love your reactions as you're always a different take from the rest! It's actually one of the weaker parts in the whole series despite being so iconic, even though I do like seeing Jotaro clown on him with his unphasable confidence! There's actually an OVA of the Egypt Arc which sells the fight a whole lot better though!

Armani_Glasses

You fold. They did explain it during the episode. They also explained exactly what Jotaro's strategy was and how it works.

Zeallust

Did they explain it during the episode? How is someone that is not familiar with how the game works supposed to understand it? Could you then explain the rule about the bidding? If someone raised your ante, and you can’t afford to raise it, what happens?

Matthew Curry

Thats just... not what happened at all Matt.

Zeallust

Your biggest gripe of the entire episode was an assumption you made and then you were adamant that it MUST be the way it works.

Zeallust

I’m pretty sure I said at some point that I am not sure how poker works. But the best episode of the entire series is going to be different for everyone. I am comfortable saying I don’t know much about it except for the match ups. So I don’t think I said that I know what the fuck I’m talking about.

Matthew Curry

It’s weird bc I didn’t hate it or didn’t like it. I think the idea of winning by outbidding wasn’t the ending I expected from a jojo episode. For a show that is crazy, to have such a easy way out, was more of a shock. Could he not keep continuing to bet the lives of the other people he is working with in the bar? Or bet the lives of other people in his book to he can outbid Jojo? I had fun with the episode, I was just more shocked it wasn’t more creative than the usual antics. Even Joesph’s part was more jojoesk

Matthew Curry

Did not wake up today expecting you to dislike this episode so much! Definitely an iconic set of eps in JoJo history, but with I can see how not getting Poker can mess with the entire situation haha.

Armani_Glasses

Jotaro won because he was bluffing mate, not because he bet more. The bet only displays confidence. You ruined the best episode in the entire series for yourself by having no idea how poker works but thinking that you know how it works.

Zeallust

Jotaro didnt win because he betted more, thats not... thats not how poker works at all...

Zeallust

Darby gets joseph and polnareffs chips for the poker game because that is what Jotaro is trying to play for, their souls back.
