This is making me want a reaction to vampire knight lmao

missellaineous

Been a few months and I haven’t seen anyone else mention this so I haven’t watched the original JP dub but, my guess based on what I know of the Japanese language, for the “cute” part Japanese is a very context based language. Pronouns are often omitted and have to be assumed. As such, Honey may have said something along the lines of “Kawaii desho”(cute, isn’t it), and their assumption would have simply been “the floatie looks cute, doesn’t it?” Now add a first person pronoun to that, and suddenly you no longer have to assume the subject. “Boku kawaii desho,” or “I’m cute, aren’t I?” Again, haven’t watched the original JP dub, but just saying that scene probably makes a lot more sense in the Japanese language. Continue with the dub, though(you’re going to anyways), you usually get funnier reactions out of the dubs and seem to have more fun with them from what I’ve seen, so enjoyyyyyyyyyy

Caeden Lathem

blake_exists

Subscribed just for this series! Just in time for the start of the worst set of episodes (8 and 9), oh boy. I'm so sorry. It really does get so much better, I swear, but do what you have to do when the orange uniforms show up in episode 9.

Ricky

As a patreon series, I would love to watch u react to centaur world🤣

Arkidie

This just makes me wish Hot Gimmick got an anime so he could react to it

Jason Gentry

Kyoya has been and I think will always be my favorite character, he was my first ever crush and all that But that bed scene does haunt me a bit 😭 He wasn't going to do anything, that much is fact and I do think he was trying to show Haruhi that if someone was to genuinely do something to her? She would be in trouble, so she needs to stop being so reckless I just wish he would've actually SPOKEN TO HER instead of doing that 😭

wh1msical

Omg I didn't realize the beach episode was coming this soon... Buckle up for the worst writing this show had

Andie Brooks

The whole almost grape scene traumatized me so hard when I watched it the first time as a kid

hi danny i'll be the vocal minority asking you to do a reaction to rahxephon someday. it's on hidive if you ever want to check it out.

jyordyan

to me at least the kyoya beach episode scene shows that on the very few times kyoya wants to genuinely be helpful he also struggles to do it in a “nice” way. He’s a very calculated person who focuses on his own benefit over anything else, when he does reach out of his comfort zone to do something helpful he still needs to be considered the “cold hearted one”. If any of the other boys would’ve done this it would’ve felt very out of place for their characters, but kyoya is the best bet for a “villain” type scene, even if he means well. I do actually like this scene because i think it builds character for kyoya but i don’t particularly like the way haruhi responds to it. i think the manga does this episode and that specific scene a lot better

apollyonnn

this is lowkey one of my fav animes but i skip the beach episode every time i rewatch LMFAO just pretend it doesn’t exist

moon

Brother's Conflict would be wild

Krysti Daniel

(tldr;; the following is about my thoughts on Kyoya in That Scene, the beach episode as a whole, and how differently this "episode" is delievered in the manga) if it helps with the beach scene, it is an anime-exclusive moral. the manga was entirely about being upset Haruhi didn't call out for help against THREE guys when the Host Club was VERY nearby, there was little to no gender politics in this specific "episode" of the manga it tied into Haruhi's flashback better too, she was used to not being ABLE to depend on anyone. but the manga makes it really clear how exhaustively close the Host Club was, and having the number of shitty guys involved upped the odds to be more than a tad dangerous. she had resources available to help her and keep her/others safe via the Host Club. it's a really interesting dynamic where both sides have a point and nobody is really in the wrong. it's why the thunder scene really helped both parties, because it was DIRECTLY touching on the subject at hand. the thunder scene feels jarring, at least to me, when you add this gender conflict on top of it; it feels like nothing is addressed. whereas, in the manga, it addresses everything within the conflict at hand and ergo does not feel jarring. in the end, Haruhi says she will put in an effort to trust the others' more, and Tamaki says he will not be so impatiently pushy or hurt by the pace about her journey in accepting help. it all ends rather nicely, in the manga i dont know why the anime decided to add Tamaki bringing up gender into what was an already really interesting dynamic. it really makes things icky also, alas, Kyoya's scene is also in the manga. cant do shit about that. my least favorite trope of all time is "male character pretends to be a threat to female friend, so she will take him/things seriously". something unfortunately common in romance anime/manga, especially from the early 2000s or close to it, albeit youll see it sometimes nowadays too. but yeah, i fucking hate this trope, it always really sours some otherwise interesting shit going on. anyway, in "Ouran"'s manga, since Kyoya didn't do it to prove a point about gender, it was instead to prove a point about how she could call for help at any time and everyone would come running; therefore, he was implied to be willingly sacrificing his relationship with the Club and Haruhi calling his bluff tripped him up. like the twins' fight episode: Kyoya isn't used to being read. he's used to being the smartest person in the room, manipulating everyone, and them having little to no idea what he is doing (at least, until he decides he can let them know, or if he decides it does not matter if they know. regardless, they do not find out until he decides it is acceptable). so, like the twins, Kyoya gets fucked up by Haruhi reading him seemingly effortlessly and so immediately. therefore, is that scene good of him to have done? fuck no. i still fucking hate that scene, manga or anime. they pull off similar "Haruhi reads Kyoya really well too" shit in a future episode, so this didn't even NEED to happen. and in order to like Kyoya (and i do, because of future episodes and future stuff in the manga), im not gonna lie to you: i just pretend that scene isnt there. cognitive dissonance is a hell of a drug. im so sorry the scene exists; i also VERY MUCH wish it wasnt here but yeah. it doesnt fix what the anime decided to do about this episode. but, like?? if it helps at all: the manga did this "episode" significantly better in terms of what the moral theme is supposed to be. Kyoya's not better though... but at least the moral makes more sense

Hey, Danny I recommend watching Brothers Conflict and Dance with Devils after this. 🤭
