Comparing to Archer vs Saber, he would also prefer to not engage Saber in CQC unless necessary Here we have a Shirou with a significantly worse arsenal than Archer + not having any of his experience while Altria has Sabers magic core, her instincts, and was getting more of her skill, if Shirou had some connection to Archers experience then he’d probably be more of a match for her in CQC like in sparks liner high

2023-12-22 22:17:10 +0000 UTCThis was a great chapter! Also thank you for not leaving us on a cliff hanger I’m glad we got to see this fight sooner than expected and what a fight it was! This was probably one of if not the best fight in the fic so far. We’ve got Shirou figuring out how to fire swords mid air finally and Altria who’s picking up Arturias instincts and skill and well she already had the magic core, but her control over it and mana burst was constantly improving. Shirou had to use a multitude of tactics to level the playing field like pre tracing weapons, using smoke, the temporary Noble Phantasm from Clarents curse, all of those were creative and cool to see in the fight! What topped it off was how Avalon would only work in this situation and not even Altria knew he had it. They went toe to toe with both struggling at certain points yet at the end Shirous choice to use a brief Ascension instead of a brief UBW cost him the fight. Altria’s play at letting her guard down as she knew Shirou wouldn’t kill her was smart and got her the win, yet in spite of that Shirou gave her doubt and still achieved his goal albeit not through a very positive manner. I loved this chapter, it was awesome and as always I am looking forward to the next one next year! Happy holidays!

2023-12-22 01:14:27 +0000 UTCTo be fair. Not even Archer's experience could beat an Artoria without tricks. This fight was evident. And I really expected Shirou to lose overwhelmingly. Avalon here is Shirou's plot armor. Even with the original Pendragon, healing was not so exaggerated.

2023-12-18 08:43:37 +0000 UTCGlad to see you think I improve, I believe that too, but you are seeing a thing on the other way around. If I was writting Archer he would be far more laid back as Shirou is naturally more behaved and good natured for not have endured the Hell it is Alaya's service. The thing is that several of the people on the 'screen' are aristocrats or extremely polite by default which is why only Ise, Saji and a few others have simpler speach patterns. Also about the fights it was always a matter of what was happening and describing it the best way I can so I don't think it will get shorter than that as the dialogue from the audience served both as a break and a signal the fight was moving to the next stage. To conclude we probably aren't returning with DxD cannon for a while as the next few chapters will first involve a rematch and then Shirou's attempt of helping with Ise with his trauma which will involve two other guys and an adventure.

But I guess that's how life is. In other news: You improved a lot when it came to writing hand-to-hand fights. From Freed to Lakmia, passing through Vali. You tended to dramatize a lunge in 1 paragraph of 10 lines. You changed that here, didn't you? Instead of long paragraphs, several short paragraphs where they are constantly moved. That's hopeful, although the number of words for a fight is still a problem. Seeing all the fights that come between fighters, I'm quite excited. Another thing, maybe you should try to dilute the dialogue a little. You know, I'm not calling you old, but there are times when the cast's dialogue goes from being an interaction between 16/18-year-old teenagers to a meeting of old aristocrats. I respect a lot the phrase "one adapts to his environment" but man, that Shirou every time I will have the mouth it seems that the one who speaks is actually Archer and with others is the same. What I mean by diluting the dialogue. It's doing it more meemly, especially in scenes where Shirou doesn't have to be fighting, for example. And that same example applies to others. Just a little advice. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. I hope we start directly with the canonical arch and not with an extra arc of 5 chapters that will be necessary later.
