He actually did talk about hating the scarf at the restaurant! So I think that part actually makes sense! And you're right, I guess the second time seeing her he would know something is up.

And he didn't have to be sure to not want her to get on the train with Eve. And he may have recognized the scarf, but that seems a long shot.
