I admit that this may not be on my list of favorite movies, but it was fun to watch nevertheless.
I wonder if Schmidt really died... he seemed like he was transported somewhere...

BTW, just in case it hasn't been cleared up yet, Schmidt didn't actually peel off his face and the look that you said wasn't a realistic representation of having removed your skin was intentional (straight from the comics.) He removed a mask that he wore to hide his disfigured face. Remember, when Dr. Erskine was telling Steve about his first attempt that there were consequences. Schmidt's transformation into a super solider wasn't as successful as Steve's, in that it left him disfigured. Also, earlier the Nazi's referred to him as "Red Skull" and there was the scene where his portrait was being painted, but they didn't let us see his face, but there was a brief closeup of the artist's palette that was mostly covered with shades of red paint.
