Here's the second part of my video reaction about The Hobbit - An Unexpected Journey. As you guys mentioned, it was meant for kids, but I still find it peculiar (and obviously funny). I will soon watch the second movie and upload the full reaction :)

In the book, the hill giants merit only a line of text,as the group is huddling in the storm, they can hear the hill giants throwing rocks in the thunder. I suppose for movie purposes, they got a bit more of a visual role. They don't appear again elsewhere. The Hobbit wasn't originally a part of the whole Middle Earth/Lord of the Rings world, but was later incorporated, its possible its a holdover from that time.
