The main example of this how the main character, Riku, is often seen as a Mary Sue for most of the season, especially when compared to other characters who have more personal stakes like Ayame who is considered one of the best things about this anime being a ninja waifu with character development.

I feel like certain characters could have been combined as certain arcs are only present for only one or two episodes for a majority of the cast
