Charmed - 1x01 "Something Wicca This Way Comes" FULL REACTION

Please please please, continue on with this show. Buffy, Angel and Charmed are on my top 3 favorit shows of all time. I also love Supernatural, Firefly, orphan Black. once upon a time, the 100, Doctor Who, Shadowhunters, Dollhouse, AAmerican Horror story, the walking dead and a whole list of other shows all compeating for the top 3 spots, but still Charmed and Buffy/Angel beats them out. Like Buffy there are a few "Bad eggs" (see what I did there) in the show, especially in the first season while the show finds its footing but its soooo worth the watch if you decide to stick with it.

This was, and still is, one of my favorite shows of all time. I've re-watched the series almost as many times as Buffy. I can even tell you the name of an episode if you give me just a small description of what happens in it, lol. Just great, great show. First episode is definitely a bit rocky, but that's on par with most pilots. If you decide to continue this one day you're in for an amazing journey. 😁

Would love to see you continue Charmed and Battlestar Gallactica. They are both up there with Buffy/Angel as my favorite shows of all time. They were each unique in the genre, which is why they are all cult favorites even still today!

Charmed is for me what Buffy is to a lot of people. I didn’t grow up with Buffy, I watched it as an adult (though I randomly caught some of Angel season 5 live on TV and knew major spoilers lol) and I absolutely adore Buffy. But Charmed was there for me while I was growing up and holds that special place in my heart, even though I would probably agree that Buffy is the objectively better show. I love the sisters and their stories and I would be excited if you ever continued this journey, whether through more requests or further down the road when you can add another show. I don’t mind that some of it might end up being familiar to you, because believe me, fuzzy old impressions you barely remember aren’t the same as the full experience with this world and its characters. Charmed, Xena, Stargate SG-1 and Buffy/Angel are my quintessential mid 90s/early 2000s adventure shows. 👍

That was fun. I also watched some of the show as it aired, but the one thing that sticked the most is that I didn’t really like most of the later seasons, even if I’m not sure why

So there is a surprising amount of stuff in this show that is accurate for wiccan practice, they've just kind of slipped it in with the fantasy elements, which is nice & shows the writers are trying to give the show some basis in the reality of such practices. Yes Athames are a thing, they are twin edged knifes & traditionally black handled; the woman at the beginning mentions an 'ancient one' in her chant, this may be a reference to The Dryghten, also called 'the ancient providence' in The Dryghten Prayer, at one point she also adopts the pose of the goddess and the pose of Osiris risen; the opening lines of the passage that Phoebe reads from the book of shadows is actually the opening lines of a poem written by Doreen Valiente, also know as the mother of Wicca; the book of shadows is a real thing as well, although a book of shadows held by a lineaged, initiatiry tradition is going to be different to one that a solitary practitioner would create themselves.

Cool to see you doing Charmed. I got into it back in the day after watching Buffy/Angel. While Buffy is a special case due to the writers, directors, and cinematography I really did enjoy Charmed and watched it through at least a few times. I would also be interested in seeing you do reactions to the full series and follow the whole journey to the end. Especially now that you are getting close to the end of Angel and don't have Buffy anymore it would be a good one to fill the spot. I haven't done a re-watch in awhile so it would be fun to go back through and also to do that thing with retroactive actor recognition. Like it was said up above there are some Buffyverse actors and others from other shows/films that pop up from time to time so it will be fun to see that.

So excited for this! I was a new mom in the early 2000's, to 3 babies in 5 years, and this show SAVED my sanity when I was feeding/folding laundry/ etc. I would watch blocks of it nearly every day. Now I watch with my daughters! And I loved your reaction, Liam, insightful as always. I'd be very excited for you to keep going. There's some dated cheesiness, and I do believe Buffy is a better show technically, but Charmed is the show I go back to over and over, even if just to hear background noise while I'm puttering around.

For those who aren't aware of the history of wiccan type witchiness, this show was partly a catalyst for an online witch war back in the 90s; one which became so heated that actual bonafide elders of the craft eventually had to step in and calm everyone the f**k down. I kid you not.

I don't care if you've seen some of it, it's a different feeling watching a full series There's only like 2 other reactors that watch this and i'm honestly not a big fan....i tried because there is no one that really does this show, but i would absolutely watch yours. (and some who do the reboot which i refuse cause i think that was trash while this was gold) I did want to kinda smack morris for his ignorance in dismissing wicca as a nonmagic concept of religion that people practice.

And I'm similar to what you said, my sister watched it when I was growing up and I only really remembered certain characters and plot points but had never fully watched it until a few years ago

Liam, if you like this show, there is a following of people for it, many from the Buffy-fans. Charmed took some of the writing/structure of Buffy and was another early show to have arcs and a lot of deep character progression. I hope you like it enough to react and keep watching it.

Wait, what? WHAT?? Omg, so excited for this!!! Boy it's a long one, and it's got it's dated cheesiness, and it's ups and downs in quality...but for real, it has some really beautiful storytelling too that explores family and life, via the supernatural/fantasy, like Buffy. A very beloved show for me 💓 If I'm not mistaken, I've heard the remaster is beautifully done and a lot of care was taken with it, so it shouldn't be a problem to watch that version, but maybe someone else can confirm.

Many years ago I was confined to my couch as I suffered greatly from a serious kidney infection, consumimg cranberry juice like it was the only liquid on earth & I binge watched Charmed. I have to say that show saved my sanity. I was deathly ill & it's the only thing that made me smile during that time. Fun show. I hope you continue with it.
