Dollhouse - 2x07 “Meet Jane Doe” FULL REACTION

Both plotlines could have been 2 or 3 episodes tbh, but I think they executed them well enough in one episode. It wasn't until you said it that I realized Galena was the main reason I enjoyed that story. I live in Texas (where this was set) and actually grew up on the border, and although it's a pretty basic storyline of anti-immigrant racism and feels a little ham-fisted, the reality of racism is pretty ham-fisted and I can't really point to a particular thing in the ep that's even stretching the truth (apart from the whole breaking somebody out of jail with your hands thing).

I don't remember the quote exactly, but I think it was Joss that said something like: you could literally watch Olivia Williams order your execution and you'd still sympathize with her.

I feel like the "three months later" would have been less awkward if we had still been with Echo's story and saw *her* three months later first, and then gone back to the Dollhouse. It might have even been better if this whole episode had been Echo's plot, including the time jump, with another episode devoted to the Adele-Topher-Harding plot. I like them dropping us in on the Dollhouse after that time, with no set-up for what's happened, just slowly revealing everything as we go along. But that transition is so jarring. Man, I love Adele. One of my favorite Whedon characters, honestly.

I was pretty sure Adelle was my favourite character. Then I saw this episode, and I was certain of it. It's fun to see a character make completely the wrong choice (especially one that seemingly has dire consequences for the future). Part of it is wanting Adelle to be in charge of the house. She's been in charge since the beginning. It just feels natural and right. Harding's a prick, and Adelle has always seemed kinda wary of Rossum, so she's like the least immoral person to be incharge (which is ironic, considering she just handed Rossum a major boon). And part of it is that Olivia Williams has such charisma and presence that I feel like she could do anything and I'd support her. Apparently she's also starring in Joss' new show The Nevers, so I can't wait to see what she brings to that. For sure, the writers knew at this point they weren't coming back. The three month jump is testament of that. I will say in its defence, in the original broadcast, there was an adbreak just before the three month jump. So maybe when watched like that, it felt less jarring and arbitrary cause you've just had a break yourself. I don't know.
