Angel - 3x04 “Carpe Noctem” FULL REACTION

...Interesting.

Angel - 3x04 “Carpe Noctem” FULL REACTION

"Seize The Night!"

Ordinarily, I'm all excited and can't wait to watch another of Liam's reactions to the Buffyverse. I tried watching the extended version, but had to switch to the YouTube cut. Just too much cringe in this episode for me.

David Boyd

Probably the actor. It always bothered me that he recites the lines as 'Marcus' and as 'Angel' the exact same way even though 'Angel' had never said them before, like when the actor at the start pronounced them differently. It was the only really jarring thing for me.

SweetSummit

I don't mind this episode, I don't enjoy it greatly but it's fun to see David have fun and all our main character dynamics worked really well. The main thing I don't like is that Angel himself didn't get any development while inside Marcus' body. It's not entirely the actor's fault because he wasn't given much material, but I wasn't sold on Angel actually being in there, while I was definitely sold on a whole new person being in Angel's body because DB is so great. Then again, the Marcus we got in Angel's body didn't really feel the same as the little bit we got of Marcus in his own body, so maybe it was the actor. Idk.

I like this episode, too. For a filler episode I think it's pretty good.

Sometimes I feel like I'm the only one who likes this episode. I just love any time David gets to play out of character. I also love body swap episodes. Yes, it's filler and yeah, Marcus is gross, but I just find this whole episode hilarious. Plus, there are some really touching moments with Fred.

1) I’m sorry you don’t enjoy this. I kinda feel like it’s a solo episode done right. Yes, it’s monster of the week, but so many continuing plot threads wind around and through it. It let David play smarmy which was a new look. And Lilah practically ripped his shirt off! I wouldn’t call Marcus a sleezy old man or horny old man, I would call him an evil old man. He wasn’t just borrowing their bodies for sex. He was also using them for extreme skiing, bungee jumping, etc til they were completely burned up. He was killing them on purpose, because he knew if he just borrowed their bodies and gave them back, they might come beat the shit out of him. And it wasn’t like he was alone. He even had friends there as we saw. He was just evil. 2) The actor playing Marcus is Ron Howard’s real life dad. And we’ve also seen Ron Howard’s real life mom (briefly) in the Buffyverse. She played the elderly substitute teacher Mrs. French in Teacher’s Pet, that the praying mantis lady is pretending to be. 3) This episode is amazing for just Cordy calling Angel a eunuch at the start, and him telling her to find another word LoL

I just laughed so hard I started crying!

So, is this episode interesting... or INTERESTING... or "interesting"? lol. I enjoy this episode, but I'd call it a guilty pleasure. I'm sure if I carefully ranked the episodes, I would put this one in the bottom half... bottom quarter maybe. I'm so sorry, Liam -- it's unfortunate that you weren't a big fan of this episode... especially because Marcus is the Big Bad for the first half of this season. :/

so, I had a stroke and at times have memory issues AND I do watch other reactors, so sometimes I get confused regarding what I have recommended them or you to react to. So, just to throw it out there, probably again, If you haven't already seen Orphan Black, Alias, Fringe and Fargo, I think it would be great to see you react to any one of them!

Compare Angel with Buffy, with respect to LGBTQ content... but also when it comes to racial minorities. Buffy was much better with the LGBTQ, but Angel was much better with minority characters. Interesting, dontcha think? At least they both did SOMETHING better than all the shows where EVERYBODY was both white and straight. I don't think we can expect every show to represent every demographic, but I do feel that it would be better if every show contained at least one kind of diversity. So if you consider racial diversity, gender-identity diversity, diversity with respect to disabilities, etc -- I think it's unwieldy to expect every show to include ALL of them... but if it can include 1 or 2 of them, then that's better than zero.

Ah, a controversial episode (in the sense that people have differing opinions about it). I don't mind it. The only thing I'm going to say, they can have gay jokes but can't have an actual gay character? I mean, the Wesley/Angel scene was funny. I laugh out loud every time. But its always a stark reminder to me that this show is much less diverse than Buffy regarding LGBTQ representation. Oh, well. It was 2000-and-something. I might be expecting too much.

Abby

I always forget this episode exists!

I like this one way more than 3x03. I mean, it has David Boreanaz having fun and Amy Acker crying. It's all I need to have a good time.
