Buffy the Vampire Slayer - 6x03 “After Life” FULL REACTION

Comments

I loved your reaction at least what I could see it cut out on me again after the lunch scene with Dawn. Is there any way you can use a 2nd download opinion like vimeo or something because most of your downloads cut out for me. Please think about it.💜

Catherine Thurmond

You are one of the most insightful reactors I’ve watched!

Cheryl Coffin

Buffy walks past a statue of an angel. Liam: "Don't blink." Doctor Who forever subverting the symbolism of angel statues in other franchises.

David Boyd

My interpretation is that Spike's need to be accepted by Buffy on some level currently outweighs his demonic id drives.

David Boyd

HAHAha. I'm watching Liam reflecting on the episode. Damn well pleased with his insightfulness, impressed too by how that insight is damn well articulated point after point after point. Then we arrive to the next point: as Liam puts it, "Tara going...plldlplplrpdpg." 😅 love. channeling the didactic style of conversation that makes Buffy iconically Buffyspeak.

Pate

Being able to "be alone" with someone is such a compliment to me, especially as someone who gets overwhelmed by people (even people I love) easily.

KT

"It's like when she wanted to make up with Oz straight away after Lovers Walk and he needed more time." Good point! Never thought of that bit of character continuity.  Fantastic reaction btw, I still debate with myself about whether this is my favorite season but this season more than any other makes me yearn for the next episode every time I watch one.

KT

This episode has so many feels moments. This plot is so dark as you can see. That moment where she reveals she was in heaven to this day hurts. This to me is the best depiction of coming back from the dead plot I've ever seen.

Angela Colon

Some moments in “After Life” rival anything in the show for great horror value. LIAM: “At least we're not going to get another new slayer.” That seemed to come from out of the blue. Willow has been taking over during bigger spells since “Becoming.” It reminds me of Gandalf using a Word of Command on a few occasions in LotR. If you can manage it, it seems much quicker than the rigamarol of gathering ingredients and casting spells. Mixed in with some spells, Willow used “Shatter” and “Thicken” against Glory in 5-19 and she seems to bypass the spell in this episode with “Solid.” What do you suppose made Xander think that Spike had stopped obsessing over Buffy. Did Tara not voice any strong objections about the spell and then stand up for Willow when Xander questioned her because of their argument last season? Has Tara been trying to show Willow that she trusts her? There's a parallel here with “Dead Man's Party” with the gang keeping to themselves and treating Buffy a little like an outsider. She had been away, spent time in 'hell' and they needed the big zombie fight at the end to bring them back together and move on with their lives. That's where the stories diverge since the fight in this episode didn't seem to bring them closer together at all.

Bruce Trogdon

Spike absolutely breaks my heart in this episode. He's such an interesting character. In theory he's evil, a demon with no soul, but how can he act so much like he has one? I guess it's the chip that has 'tamed' him. Without it he'd likely be a monster again. He's not like Angel, he doesn't seem to regret any of the killing he's done and I don't think he has empathy as such, but.... I guess this is sort of an example of how a sociopath can behave well and fit in with 'regular' people if he can be shown that it's in his best interests to do so?

Me too, Season 6 is amazing. I like Buffy in general, but I do love the way Season 6 goes. It's got everything you need from Buffy and defies categorisation. But then I think Buffy always does that - comedy, drama, romance, horror, fantasy - things to make you laugh out loud, gasp in horror and cry like a baby. Sometimes (often?) all of the things in one episode. Time to ride the emotional rollercoaster!

Hazel Angus

I love this season, it's my favourite. So excited for more reactions!!!

Mel Saville

Thank you. When Buffy said she missed Giles, I felt that. :)

Grace

Same! <3

I'm in the anti camp, but there are still a lot of things I like about it. One of the things was that they didn't "cheat" with bringing Buffy back from the dead--there were consequences, and they faced them straight on. (Plus, of course a couple of wonderful episodes. Just plain amazing ones coming up. I just didn't enjoy the general arc, and found it a little... disjointed?... on the whole.)

FernWithy

I don’t know about that, the idea of a hero or other chararacter coming back “wrong” from a resurrection due to messing with forces they shouldn’t have is not an uncommon trope.

Arnold Kim

Oh season 6, a very unique one from the rest you are. And divisive. I am in the pro camp. My second fave after S5. I think you will enjoy it Liam and I love that you are loving the eps so far. It's so fun to see it through a first timers eyes and you definitely are astute on what is going on with Buffy and other things too. Oh, how about that shirt Willow was wearing at the end? It's known in some circles as the flayed Elmo pelt shirt. :)

Val

We've seen many stories of heroes returning from the dead. There have been at least 2 fairly prominent examples in the last couple of years. Often these are the result of someone performing a resurrection. This is the only example I know of where a resurrection was depicted as the wrong thing to do. I'm sure there are other examples, but it would probably be better not to name them... to avoid spoiling each other.

It’s amazing to see you pick out so much from these starting three episodes, things I didn’t see til later viewings. But, yeah, that last scene is a punch to the gut, and the writing and acting of the scene are so powerful. It’s odd to be reminded how much drama and emotion can be packed into two people talking.

Steve Maxey

I'm always amazed revisiting Season 6 at how much the show has matured from its earlier tone. The characters are dealing with adult worries and problems, and even the "sidekicks" have come into their own. Willow in particular has become such a powerful and integral character. Tara is no longer as shy and withdrawn. Dawn actually gets good moments and isn't written as "young" as she is in Season 5. Even Anya is written as a bit more human and less perplexed by human behavior (though there's still a little of that). It's amazing how much this show let its formula organically evolve as its characters age. S6 is highly underrated, and I'm excited for these reactions. This along with Season 3 of Angel is some high quality Buffyverse.

There is always a cost

Good thinking. It's really a 3 part premiere.

UTU49

That brief look on Tara's face when Willow broke away from their joint spell & just used her own power instead, I think after what Xander said that was the moment when she realised jumping to Willow's defence may not have been right after all. Also Willow not telling even Tara what the Buffy Demon/Copy was talking about (the sacrifice of the faun), this is someone she's supposed to trust with her life but now she's keeping things from her, and from the rest of the group (not telling them how hardcore the resurrection spell was, for example). And then you've got Buffy, completely shut down, seeming to prefer to go sit in a crypt with a Vampire she doesn't really like rather than spending time with her friends, the way she says 'You did that' to Willow, and then the reveal with Spike at the end. So much potential laid out in just one episode.

Claire Eyles

oh no! Just realised its gonna be a whole nother week til you do another buffy episode! wahhh! lol

"147 days yesterday... 148 today. Except today doesn't count, does it?" "But I want you to know that I did save you.... / Every night I saved you..." "... I was warm, and I was loved, and I was finished. Complete.../ I think I was in heaven... and I was torn out of there, ripped out, by my friends.. / This is hell..." MY HEART! I find it so interesting that Buffy left the magic box and sought him out, sat with him all night. Then she leaves the box again and finds him outside and totally opens up to him... She says 'I can be alone with you here.' and Spike makes a joke, clearly taking it as a kind of insult, like he doesn't matter. But with it all together, to me it seems like she is saying she can be comfortable and quiet with him there with her, alone and not alone... which I find kind of beautiful... and sad because of course Spike would see it in the negative there and not see what a big deal it is that she might sit with him at all, you know? I liked all your thoughts about Willow, the magic and all of that. We've definitely seen a bit of a track record developing over the seasons with Willow and her magic. Just last season Tara said how fast she is progressing and how scary it can be to see it unfolding, and now it seems like maybe even Xander is starting to have a few doubts about the safety and level-headedness of his best friend and her spells. It's a great episode, I think. I can't wait to see more. Some of my fav episodes of the show are in this season and i'm really excited!

Ahhhh!!! Now I can watch 6x01, 6x02, and 6x03 back to back! Haha I was waiting for this so I can have a marathon! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

This is a genuinely creepy episode & the reveal at the end is just *oof* my heart, I've been so looking forward to this reaction.

Claire Eyles

The last scene between Spike and Buffy always brings a tear to my eye. It doesn’t matter how many times I watch the episode, I’m still moved by the amazing writing and acting on display.

Nyx

That tracking shot of Buffy walking past the statue of the angel, wow. If you hadn't figured it out at this point, that was some major foreshadowing.

Jarrod Wild

IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS FOR SO LONG!! 😱❤️
