It definitely comes as a close second to my personal favourite: "your logic does not resemble our Earth logic"

Haven't seen this episode in a long time, I've rediscovered my new favourite quote for the comments section in the future 'that's insane troll logic'

Wow, surprised that not everyone loves this episode. It's a favorite of mine. Really, though, every episode in s5 is a favorite of mine.

Buffy was good at pairing random characters together most tv shows these days the main characters only interact with their love interest 90% of the time

This episode is on my Top 10 weakest episode of the show, together with another S5 episode written by Jane Espenon.

Something you said in this beautifully long comment brings a lot of sense to something I’ve long wondered about, but I won’t say what just in case. But thank you.

I think with Spike and how he deals with love, what remains crucial to remember is that he's soulless, Dru was also Soulless, like Harmony as well, but Buffy isn't. And that plays a role here as well.

I know a few people have issues with Willow's "hello, gay now" line, because they see it as a form of bisexual erasure because Willow did have a loving and committed relationship with a man in the past (Oz, obviously). I tend to see it differently though, and that's as a bisexual woman myself. From season 1 there was always a plan to have a character come out as gay, and the two Joss was deciding between was either Xander or Willow, with both characters having hints dropped about their potential sexuality in the first three seasons. With Willow the most obvious was her "I think I'm kinda gay" line in doppelgangland, but I think her previous attractions and relationships can also be read as her being gay even back then and not having recognised or come to terms with it. She has a crush on Xander, a relationship she has to know deep down is never going to be fully reciprocated, and then falls in love with Oz, who by her own admission is 'taciturn', and then turns around and risks that entire relationship by getting involved with a relationship that she has to know isn't going to go anywhere - and sure, yeah, they sort things out in the end until their final break up, but her involvement with Xander and Oz has always felt to me, knowing what we know later, as being Willow playing it safe in terms of emotional connection compared to her later relationship with Tara.

We see Anya's development differently, but otherwise a great review of an interesting episode. And I don't mean “interesting” in a negative way. It's like the writers put a little bit of almost every current story line into a single episode just for the fun of it. Aside from the sudden appearance of Olaf the Troll, I count ten on-going story lines that get a moment or two at center stage.
IMO, when a character does something over-the-top, it's intentional and is there to draw our attention to it. Top of the list for this episode is Buffy and her reactions to relationship troubles. Whatever you think they're highlighting, I think it's important to note that the previous relationships mentioned in the episode, Buffy-Angel and Xander-Cordelia, both eventually got resolved and everyone parted more-or-less friends. But the Buffy-Riley relationship simply ended and she was left wondering what happened.
A couple of things that none of us knew on first viewing:
This episode was VERY long. They started cutting while writing because the outline was obviously too long. They cut while shooting and still had to cut scenes after the filming was done. Giles, for example, returns in the middle of the episode - I think it was during the clean-up scene at The Bronze – but they were able to edit him out. A scene which never got filmed was Anya telling how Olaf the Troll stole the magic hammer from the God of the Trolls. All we get on screen is one seemingly random line about 'the power is in the hammer.'
In an interview with the BBC, Jane Espenson said that Joss pointed out the animosity between Willow and Anya while she was writing “Pangs” (4-8) but Jane thought they could have highlighted it a little better leading up to “Triangle”.

Love the Buffy reactions! Your end comments have some wonderful truth bombs, as always just so insightful. 😍👀🤓 Can't wait for the next upload.
I like this one for the comedy. I use Buffy's line "Playing Soccer" whenever I can get away with it. 😂⚽

I don't actively dislike it, but yeah, it's just... there. I do love the random interacting pairs (Willow and Anya, Spike and Xander, Buffy and Tara), just because it gives all of them a new dynamic to play with. I am imagining that Dawn is hanging out on the phone with Giles, driving him crazy asking him what he's looking at in England or something.

I just looked it up and I think we gotta blame the directing, since this was the only credit the director (Christopher Hibler) has but it was written by Jane Espenson. It does feel unnatural at times, but there are a lot of extremely memorable lines.

Yeah, not a massive fan of this one myself, although I do like the troll scenes and the stuff with Spike. There are some nice moments, but overall it feels very forced to me. Willow feels out of character, and a lot of the stuff with Buffy feels very contrived - the nunnery scene at the beginning for example, and the crying scene with Tara just makes me cringe tbh. I don't know - I find a lot of this episode just feels very unnatural, which I have to blame on the writing, as I know the actors are capable of more.

Oh my! One of my fave Season 5 episodes. It’s so entertaining to watch Willow and Anya go at it. 😂
