2019-12-04 00:13:02 +0000 UTCYou mentioned one of the parallels I like about this episode – Wesley and Darla complaining that they are having to do Angel's job. Another is a Buffy parallel from season 2 of BtVS. When Angelus returned as a straight-up, no soul-having, evil vampire, Buffy went after him but: Angelus: You can't do it. You can't kill me. Buffy: Give me time. Buffy still saw Angel when she looked at him and now Angel is seeing and thinking about human Darla (and how he failed her, he thinks). As mentioned in his monologue, vampires almost always kill up close with fangs but Angel tries to burn D&D from 40 feet away. I wonder if he was hoping to get lucky and stop the fight before it really got started so as to avoid that personal confrontation.
