I would be a bit surprised if you recognized Mel but not legendary Britain comic Peter Cook as the Impressive Clergyman.

2019-08-08 21:36:44 +0000 UTCI did not know this was coming, OMG!! Freak out! OK - you've made my evening, know what I'm watching now :D :D Well Ok, I'm 2 days late, wasn't expecting anything yet. It does mean everyone else will have commented with all the quotes already! This is the ultimate quotable film!! I heart it so much. I ADORE it. And have watched it many times over like others here.

2019-08-08 21:32:26 +0000 UTCProbably still the best wrestler role of all time... the rock is doing great, but I don't think any of his characters are as great as Fezzic (idk how to spell it). Though, Drax is great too.

2019-08-08 01:51:54 +0000 UTCThat's Andre the Giant. He was a famous Wwe wrestler before his death......his being in this movie was iconic in itself for wrestling fans

2019-08-07 20:18:04 +0000 UTCI love this movie so much, one of my all time faves. Maybe not the best movie ever, but probably the movie that brings me the most joy every time I watch it. I particularly liked your reaction to The Impressive Clergyman, "Mawwiage, that bwessed awwangement, that dweam wifin a dweam." LOL!

2019-08-07 00:59:56 +0000 UTCI’m so glad someone else noticed that, lol! As a huge Princess Bride fan, the parallels made me love that character even more I think.

2019-08-06 19:41:07 +0000 UTCI really enjoyed this reaction! Glad you enjoyed the movie, such a big part of my life, alongside the book (which I recommend) and the soundtrack. Thank you, Liam. Thank you, Sherlyn.

2019-08-06 18:42:11 +0000 UTCGlad I'm not the only one to watch the movie a million times and not realize it's spelled Westley. Took Liam's twitter comment to make me realize. Liam is observant!

2019-08-06 18:18:48 +0000 UTCI hadn't watched this in ages, and just noticed a kind of oddly striking parallel. "My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die." "You raped my sister. You murdered her. You killed her children." There's obviously one major difference between the two arcs, but they're weirdly very similar otherwise.

2019-08-06 17:55:12 +0000 UTCAlso, not sure if you recognized him, but the actor who plays Wesley is on season 3 of Stranger Things as the mayor.

2019-08-06 12:05:59 +0000 UTCOne of my favorite movies of all time. I love that, for me anyway, it still holds up and doesn’t feel dated. This is one movie I just pray they never try to remake. Saw you were reacting to this and had to become a patron. Keep up the great work! Love your AoS and Buffyverse reactions too!

2019-08-06 11:59:17 +0000 UTCThis got me to become a patron :) One of my most favorite movies of all time, and one of the first movies I saw in cinemas when it first came out. Great pick! Also, hi everyone from ASR :P

2019-08-06 11:59:13 +0000 UTCNO F*&@ing WAY!!! I'm shook that you've never seen this. One of my favorite movies of all time. I grew up watching this movie over & over again. It's also one of the most quotable movies ever made. You can't see it in my reactions very well, but I have a giant poster of Wesley & Buttercup hanging on my nerd wall. So hype for this! Love ya, Liam!! XO

2019-08-06 11:53:43 +0000 UTCI listened to “as you wish” on audiobook and it was awesome. Some of the stories were read by different actors and producers. Made me love the movie even more!

2019-08-06 04:24:08 +0000 UTCI’ve actually said “Anybody want a peanut?!” Multiple times in my life. Most quotable movie ever!!!

2019-08-06 04:22:44 +0000 UTCI was so excited when I saw this pop up. As with most above, this is one of my favorite movies and it gets better the more you watch it.

2019-08-06 01:29:02 +0000 UTCAs a beloved piece of pop culture, Princess Bride probably fulfills a similar role to The Wizard of Oz, Star Wars, and Monty Python. This was one of the early movies to blend somewhat serious drama, silly comedy, and a fantasy element (sci-fi, magic, etc), along with Star Wars and Ghostbusters. Today, this is done all the time. Princess Bride is probably a direct or indirect influence on Joss Whedon and the MCU. I see Princess Bride as actually being half spoof. Glad you enjoyed it. Imagine what it would have been like to watch this when you were 5, 10, or 15 years old at a time when you didn't have a zillion options of things to watch.

2019-08-05 22:48:30 +0000 UTC"Well I'm assuming there won't be a post-credits scene with Samuel L. Jackson turning up." Bwuahahahaha!!
2019-08-05 22:18:49 +0000 UTCYou should grab the soundtrack. You can play the whole movie in your head just listening to the music (because you know most of have watched it enough to know the entire script).

2019-08-05 22:17:05 +0000 UTCso. many. shrek. references... and im living for it! im a 2000s kid whose experiences with 80s movies were strictly limited to those with bill murray, but i saw it like once or twice as a child. in elementary school, our teacher would play this on the bus when we went on field trips so i know the faces well but never fully watched the movie until now. if you watch stranger things, you can see westley play the mayor - i noticed right away despite only having seen him in this one movie. awesome reaction! you should do more movies!! (my favorite movie is dead poets society but you’ve probably already seen it)

2019-08-05 21:02:44 +0000 UTCI love this movie - so quotable! If you're thinking about reading the book, know this: The Princess Bride movie was screenwritten by the great William Goldman. The Princess Bride novel was also written by William Goldman, and it purports to be an abridgment of a longer book by S. Morgenstern ... but there was no original book or S. Morgenstern. And Goldman's book is hilarious, but in a totally different way than the film; he intercuts his "abridgments" with asides and commentary about what's going on in his own life at the time. (These commentaries are also fiction, btw.) I personally prefer the movie because that's what I fell in love with first, but the book is pretty great, too. What I'd really recommend, though, is picking up "As You Wish," which was written by Cary Elwes (Westley) about the filming of the movie. Good lord, it's hilarious! He talks about his and Mandy Patinkin's training for the sword fight ("the Greatest Swordfight in Modern Times"), how Wallace Shawn (Vizzini) was in a constant state of paranoia because he was certain he was going to be fired, how everyone there basically had a crush on Robin Wright. And he talks about Andre the Giant. Everyone loved him. The book is worth a read if for no other reason than to get the Andre the Giant anecdotes. It's sad to think how much pain the man had to be in, but his exploits were legendary. He was putting off surgery until after the movie wrapped and drank to self-medicate for the pain and, given his size, it meant drinking a LOT. Elwes tells a story of Andre over-indulging one night and passing out cold in the lobby; nobody could move him, so they put up a velvet rope around him and just had to hope he'd wake up early (he didn't). I'm glad you liked the movie!

2019-08-05 17:09:53 +0000 UTCThis may be the corniest, best movie of all time. I can quote it verbatim, and love watching it over and over. Thanks for this.

2019-08-05 16:13:57 +0000 UTCHad to join for this reaction! Love this movie so much, so thanks for reacting to it. Do you recognize Wesley (Cary Elwes) from Stranger Things? Catch Robin Hood: Men in Tights sometime too, starring him. My brand of humour☺️

2019-08-05 15:49:50 +0000 UTCI was so surprised to see this as a reaction and extra happy I'm a patrion to see it. (whomp whomp YouTube 😝😉) Hehe. I love quoting this movie so much!! From Fezzig's rhymes on the boat, Fezzini's monologue about land wars in Asia, Westley's one-liners during the epic sword duel or his too-the-pain speech. Hah! So much great and/or campy writing. And of coarse the priest at the Royal wedding. 😂😂 "Mawwage. Mawage beings us twogewer today." ⛪ Classic, like Monty Python. I'm happy you'll go through life getting these casual references now with this movie under your belt. 👍 Great pick!

2019-08-05 14:36:33 +0000 UTCThanks Liam! Love this movie. I've seen it so many times! I often tell my husband to "Have fun stormin' da castle!" as he is walking out the door. 😊

2019-08-05 13:45:46 +0000 UTCMan, so happy I was able to watch your reaction to this epic movie! My oldest sister grew up during the 80’s and this was one of her childhood favorites! Her go-to movie when she would stay home sick from school. When I was little she showed me this movie as well, therefore me growing up with this movie as well! Not going to lie, now I am REALLY curious about what your reaction to Labyrinth would be! Thanks again Liam! ❤️❤️

2019-08-05 13:14:57 +0000 UTCI love this classic so much!!! It's one of my favorite movies of all time because it has everything you could ever want in a movie and story. Just like the Grandfather said, it's got adventure, fantasy, swordfighting, daring escapes, pirates, revenge, true love, etc... It's so amazingly beautiful and so much fun. It's deliciously cheesy too, which is why people love to quote this movie today so much, and why it's a classic everyone loves. My favorite characters are Westley played by Carey Elwes, Inigo Montoya played by Mandy Patinkin, the Grandfather played by Peter Falk, and Miracle Max played by Billy Crystal. However, I love Princess Buttercup played by Robin Wright, Fezzig played by Andre the Giant, and Fezzini played by Wallace Shawn too. Such brilliant and fun characters you love to laugh for. As for my favorite scenes... First, I love the scene when Inigo and Fezzig bring Westly to Miracle Max for a miracle to revive Westly. Miracle Max is hilarious and I laugh so hard at this scene every time. And second, I love the whole swordfight scene between Westley and Inigo on the Cliffs of Insanity. So brilliant! Thank you so much for your reaction to this movie. I really enjoyed watching it again as you watched it for the first time and I'm so happy you loved it too. I look forward to many more movie reactions from you. Until next time...

2019-08-05 13:02:40 +0000 UTCI was so surprised and delighted to see this post! I went nuts as a kid, and watched TPB over and over; I have it so memorized I don't even need to be watching it to recite the lines. (Self call out lol.) Fun fact: the script is based on a book *based* on another book. When the writer was a child, his grandfather used to read the original to him, and when he was an adult he went in search of it to read to his own kids. Only, instead of the story he'd so loved, he found this horribly dense, rather convoluted and boring book in its stead, and he realized that his grandfather, for all those years, had been leaving out giant chunks of the story, the stuff that didn't matter, or make sense, to make it more fun for him. So the script itself is sort of a combination of both - the times he remembered with his grandfather, and the best parts of the original book (which, btw, I've tried to read, and it really is *just* that bad. Lol). Anyway, thanks so much for surprising us with this one! Your reaction was a blast! 😊
