The best thing would be for him to take responsibility and be present in everyday life and not be out there messing with everything that moves. Although I honestly don't see him as a very responsible person and I doubt he would be capable of leading a daily family life.

He'll probably get more comfortable with the idea as he and the kid get a little older and he gets to do fun 'dad' stuff like take him fishing.
