It’s the ability to grip you just as much as a story you are describing. One of shock and awe. The smart scripts, craft and performance, elevated by the ability to create tension in the spaces of 40 minutes. Executing that pace is tremendous. The pauses and releases. The stakes are the same for me as any story where lives are on the line. But more so, because it’s a family. Their inner motivations and history as people — and what the evolution is for this family is the heart of the story. Like the ending… it’s not a gotcha or a swerve. But a “hole they could step in.” They’ve been miraculously able to hide this life. Kids are aging. That’s a huge wrench … a dangerous one, if they ever knew. Yeah, smart. Glad you like it. Only gets stronger.

"back when one phone call a month, maybe 2 minutes, was all we could afford." Jesus, it's crazy how quickly things can change in the world.

awesome episode. Yeah I think this show is very similar to BCS in how it presents character growth/change/and their process and the overall "stakes" that already known to the audience.

17:00 - oh, that brought back memories. When my mom left USSR, we didn't know when/if we'll see her again (my grandparents and I). It was before Internet, back when one phone call a month, maybe 2 minutes, was all we could afford. My mom made a cassette tape for me with her singing and talking to me. It really helped, to hear her voice.

40:30 - I guess it's fair that if Stan shot the mom, he gets to babysit for a while. Imagine calling the guy that shot your wife, to ask him to take care of the kids!

Spoilers. What a great episode! Maybe my favourite of the season. Interesting choice for mvp! I 100% would have expected you to give it to Claudia (Granny) as she was such a savage this episode. Her little ruse with the CIA "beaurocrat" was fantastic. And her line to Liz: "And you don't know me AT ALL.", setting up that scene for later, was wondrous. I'd probably give the silver to Arkady (the Rezidentura) for coming up with the plan that he did to remotely abort the "meeting". Nina gets the bronze. Or maybe Stan for not-giving-a-fuck and just opening fire on Liz... so much happened in just one episode! edit: Watching it again (I was excited for this one!!), I notice that at 24:18 it looks like maybe a scene is missing? Don't remember the episode well enough to say what was in that scene tho.
