Fixing cracks in the deck

Hi guys!

Happy Friday! In this week's video, it's finally back to boatwork. I'm a little bit limited in what I can work on with the catamaran out in the open (weather) and with us potentially wanting to move it again (if we find property), but a good place to start are all the crack up on deck. This video was shot last week.

In real-time news. Our 40ft shipping container (for the CNC/winter workshop) arrived yesterday. It's going to be awesome! I'll post a live update this weekend...

Live update: 40 ft shipping container workshop

Hi guys a quick little live update to go into some more detail about our 40ft shipping container workshop.

A couple of things I forgot to mention:

1) one of the other things we need a CNC for is to cut the sheet goods for the interior of the boat.

2) the plan is to get a second shipping container once we find property and put a roof between the two that spans the width of the catamaran so we can get the boat out of the rain

3) the logical way to approach the refit of...

We're done moving in :)

Hi guys!
Happy Friday :) In this week's video, I finally finish getting settled in the workshop under the boat. This video was shot last week.

In real-time news. Oh boy, lots of stuff to report :D I'm almost ready to shoot the first sand blasting video. That will involve testing 11 different media/grits to determine which one works best to open up the tiny air bubbles just below the gelcoat aboard Spiffy. I think that will be a lot of fun. This week I've been patching all (turns ou...

One last trip to Florida*

Hi guys!

Happy Friday :) In this week's video, I head back to Florida to bring our CRV and the tool trailer up to North Carolina. This video was shot last week.

For a real-time update, check out the live update from earlier today :)

Thank you so much for your support! Have a fantastic weekend :)

Live update: done moving and hurricane šŸŒ€

Hi guys šŸ™‚

A quick little live update. I forgot to mention that we also now have working internet at the catamaran so I can post live updates without having to go back to Athena first.

Please cross your fingers that the hurricane that’s heading towards the US threads the needle between the US and the Bermuda šŸ¤ž

Thank you so much for your support! Have a fantastic weekend šŸ™‚

Done moving stuff (from Florida)

Hi guys

I tried posting this earlier today from the yard but our internet (T mobile) is horrible there.

Have a fantastic weekend :) Thank you so much for your support!

She made it home

Hi guys!

In this week's video, we move Spiffy to Oriental. That involves hauling her on a trailer for a whopping 25 miles. Danny let us put two cameras inside the cab. It was pretty cool to get a glimpse from the driver's POV :)

Normally, I include a little snippet about what has happened in real-time this week, but I'm scheduling this post a few days in advance. I'm flying back to Florida tomorrow to bring our last bit of stuff to Oriental. I've chosen to schedule this post beca...

We made it!

Hi guys!

Happy Friday! In this week's video, we make it all the way to Oriental, NC, and tie up with a small army of other PDQ/Antares 44 boats. This video was shot last week :)

In real-time news: Spiffy is out of the water! The drone photo below is from earlier today :D How wide is Spiffy? More or less exactly the width of a 2-lane road ;) Standby for a live update tomorrow when I go to the yard.

She's on the move!

Hi guys!

In this week's video, we start the journey up the ICW (IntraCoastal Waterway) aboard Spiffy.

In real-time news. We arrived in Oriental earlier today. We have done very long days to cover the distance as quickly as possible. There are two reasons for this.

1) I think we have both had our fill of the ICW for a little while, and bringing Spiffy north, to be honest, wasn't that much fun. She looks very rough. We figured we were very likely to attract some attention, a...

We're back in the water!

Hi guys,

Here is the video from splashing Spiffy :) We might have gone a little overboard with the cinematic music during the drone shots of her swinging over the treetops and into the water ;) Needless to say, we are incredibly excited that we managed to get the boat back in the water. I'll be even more excited when we have made it to North Carolina and Spiffy has settled into her new home ;)

In real-time, we have made it to Savhana without any major issues. We are on a bit of...

Road trip and Spiffy Splash!

Hi Guys!
Ava here—and I’m writing to you from aboard Spiffy, floating in the Indian River! Woo hoo!

But first, in this week's video, we fix the windshield wipers on the truck and give it a shiny new wheel cover. Mads also tackles the brakes just in time for our first road trip up to North Carolina.

Now, for current events: as many of you know, yesterday was splash day! The haul-out and crane process went incredibly smoothly. We’re so gl...

Things Are Moving Along!

Hi Guys šŸ‘
Ava here.

In this week’s video, we make great progress clearing out the bottom of the boat, get our shiny new Mantus anchor aboard, and Mads installs our new Maretron display.

Apologies for the delayed Patreon update—on Thursday we made a last-minute decision to take the truck and a load of our belongings up to North Carolina. We hit the road early Friday morning and made it to Marine Craft just in time to watch the sunset :) Luckily, the truck made it in one p...

Pimp our $1 Dodge Ram 1500!

Hi Guys,
Ava here šŸ™‚

It’s truck week! And listen—I never thought these words would come out of my mouth, but we actually had a lot of fun working on the truck last week. She’s coming along nicely, and it’s amazing what some new carpet and a little reupholstery can do. We know truck life is a bit different from boat work, but we hope you enjoy this week's video just the same.

In real-time news: if you can believe it—there is a trailer under ...

And The New Name Is...

Hi Guys,

Ava here!

In this week’s video, we finally reveal the new name of the catamaran and it’s… Spiffy! šŸŽ‰

We thought long and hard about this one, and it just feels right. It’s short and sweet—great for hailing on the radio, checking into ports, and most importantly, she is (and will be) a pretty dang spiffy boat when we’re done with her.

Also in this episode, Mads installs our new Quick chai...

Ready to Go Back in the Water!

Hi guys,

Ava here :)

In this week’s video, we finally test the engines—and spoiler alert—they work! Woohoo! We also plumb the shower, align the port-side rudder, and tackle a very crappy job… unfortunately, pun intended.

In real time, we got to take the new dinghy out for a test ride and to check the depths where we’ll be splashing the catamaran. Good news: there’s plenty of water! The only thing we noticed is that the ramp is a bit long for the cran...

Ready for the Water?

Hi Guys,

Ava here… again šŸ™‚

Okay, I know I keep saying this, but we’ve checked so many items off our list this week—we’re really zooming along!

We kicked off the week by tackling some of the more ā€œcomfort-relatedā€ projects in preparation for the trip north—like building a bed and installing the head. We also ripped out the old oven and stove, and let me tell you, there’s something very therapeutic about demolition!

Then Mads got his ...

Basic DC System

Hi Guys,

Ava here šŸ™‚

We checked off a few big items this week as we inch closer to our big move north!

Mads set up a very basic DC system so we can run our nav lights, charge the handheld VHF, and—most importantly—start the engines. Since everything will be redone once we get to North Carolina, he built the setup on a small piece of plywood so it can be easily removed later.

Another major task was installing the engine push-pull cables. We were d...

Getting Things Done!

Hi guys,

Ava here—back on Patreon Post duty! šŸ™‚

We’ve checked a lot off the to-do list in this week’s video. We picked up the tanks from the welder and got them installed, put in all the new thru-hulls (complete with Mads’ 3D-printed plugs), made both hulls watertight, and even got the bottom paint on—plus a few other satisfying jobs.

And speaking of satisfying… I may have had a little too much fun vacuuming every nook and cranny of this boat. I ca...

The Last Leg North...

Hi everyone,

Ava here :) I’ve been given the great honor this week of posting the Patreon video!

In this week’s episode, we wrap up the final leg of our ICW trip to North Carolina. And of course—what’s an adventure without a little engine scare? Thankfully, it wasn’t anything too serious, and we made it the rest of the way safely.

When we arrived in Oriental, we docked Athena at Marine Craft Marina in Merritt—the Antares hub of North Ame...

There are two types of sailors ...

Hi guys,

Happy Friday! In this week's video, we start the trip up the ICW to bring Athena from Cape Canaveral to Oriental, NC. Yes, we finally managed to touch ground with Athena's keel šŸ™„ Luckily, it was soft mud, and there should be no damage. Remember the saying: There are two types of sailors - those who have run aground and those who lie about it šŸ˜‰

In real-time news, we should have made it to Oriental, NC by the time you read this. It's going to be a crazy mess or ...

Nav lights, leaky tanks & 3D printing

Hi guys!

In this week's video, I create a piece of trash art using a 2x4 for nav lights, and we finally get our diesel tanks - but they have leaks. This video was shot from April 16th to April 22nd.

In real-time news: Good morning from the ICW. Ava and I are going to make it to Charleston, SC, today. That means we only have around 380 nautical miles to go until we reach Oriental, NC - aka the new Sail Life Global HQ ;)

I'm using this time on the ICW to prepare a little bit...

The Tool Trailer goes off-grid :)

Hi guys!

So sorry about the delayed video! Better late than never :) As is tradition in the Patreon videos, I have disabled the YouTube ads, and I have edited out the baked-in ad (in this case, Renogy). For this particular video, I couldn't completely get rid of it because it's spread out throughout the video, but I've removed as much as I could (like the specs on the solar panels that I would not have included if it wasn't a sponsored video) :)

The pits!

Hi guys!

Since recording this video last week, I've had some time to think things over (in regards to the pits). I was talking with Claus, and he asked if I had considered sand or ice blasting the hull. I think that might be what we end up doing, but no matter what we end up choosing, now is not the time. Ava comes back to Florida on the 23rd. Our goal is to be out of here (with Athena) a couple of days later. Ava goes back to London on July 1st. That means we need to get the catamara...

We got steering! :D

Hi guys,

You'll already know that the steering works because of last week's Patreon update video but lots of other fun stuff happened too :)

In real-time news. This week took a bit of an unexpected turn. We have 1000's of little pinholes in the laminate (and gelcoat) under the waterline. I'll make another Patron Update video in the next few days and show you what's up (it'll also be in next week's video) but essentially I believe we need to remove all the old gelcoat and add a s...
