David Duchovny who played Denise Bryson in this episode is probably best known for 'X-Files' a sci-fi FBI detective series that blends monster of the week with longer story arcs. I would also like to mention Robocop (1987), a satirical action film, which stars Ray Wise (Twin Peak's Leland Palmer), Miguel Ferrer (Twin Peak's Albert Rosenfield) and Dan O'Herlihy (Twin Peak's Andrew Packard).

The trans representation manages to be both pioneering and a bit dated. Some of the terminology is reflective of 90s vocabulary, and it's not necessarily ideal to have a cis man play the role, but Denise is a fully realised character who's a respected figure, treated with admiration and dignity and not played off as a joke. This show was my first exposure to the idea of being trans back when I was a kid, and I have a lot of respect for that, and David Lynch for being an ally. James...😐 Hmm... Yeah, no-one gives a shit lol - possibly the worst and most pointless sub-plot of the entire show. I never remember the details of this patch of Season 2; it's a bit of a slump first sure, but it hits an upswing towards the end
