My father's house shines hard and bright
it stands like a beacon calling me in the night
Calling and calling, so cold and alone
Shining 'cross this dark highway where our sins lie unatoned
Great episode, great reaction. This was definitely Jack’s episode all the way, even not counting the flashbacks; he carries it, with emotional gut punches in both the present day and the flashbacks. Destroying your father’s life can’t be an easy thing to do, regardless of what a negligent prick he is.
I really like how Matthew Fox and John Terry play off each other, their relationship feels very lived-in and real. Terry is excellent as this utterly toxic father, because for as horrible as he is, he does possess a certain father-knows-best charisma. You really get the sense he knows how to turn on the charm, and manipulate his way out of situations.
Crazy fight scene. Actually, it wasn’t really a fight, was it? Jack got his ass handed to him pretty thoroughly. Ethan was just terrifyingly efficient: no gloating, no taunting, not even any sadism. He just communicates an ultimatum, and follows up on it. Or at least he would have, if Jack hadn’t smacked Charlie alive. Honestly? I wouldn’t have hated it if Charlie had died for real here. I’d be interested to see how the show would have unfolded.
Michael pissed me off too, but I guess he just wants to be useful. He’s definitely one of the most proactive survivors, always throwing himself into the thick of it. Maybe he has a bit of a yearning to be a hero, like Boone.

This episode's flashbacks were the perfect payoff to Jack's last episode where his Mom chastises Jack for "what he did" to his father. Telling the truth/doing the right thing, and still feeling guilty about it is so Lost.

"No, no, I want to figure this out now!" .... well, you are watching the wrong show then 😂
When Jack tried to revive Charlie and the theme music kicked in, I immediately teared up despite that I knew how the scene would end. The theme is phenomenal and when its used in the show its usually something tragic or emotional. I have so much good memories connected with it, I always have to tear up.
Great show! And great reaction of course!
