Charisma Carpenter was pregnant during these episodes so it was written on the show

Michael Matthews

For comparison, I'd say something like Firefly is Buffy-level good. 🔥

Although it's not Faith, if you want more Eliza Dushku ✨magic✨, there is a lesser known Whedonverse series call Dollhouse that gained a cult following. It's pretty good! Definitely more Angel-good than Buffy-good if you get what I mean, but it goes wild places and asks interesting questions with generally solid writing and acting.

Yeah you have to be near death to become a vampire, whereas Lilah was just dead. As for Lilah loving Wes, I think she did as much as she's capable, and would have been her life down on the line for his....Good eye with the knife, she was being targeted like all the potential slayers.

Morgan Williams

Faithy's back!

Melissa

All I'm going to say is that it was soo much fun watching you so enthralled and excited seeing Eliza again. I think it's pretty safe to say that Faith is one of the more universally loved characters in the fandom.. . I mean, you guys can tell me fi I'm wrong but that's just always been my experience.

Just hit play -- listening to your intro -- but immediately notice and wanted to say quickly: LOVE the hair today. The curls are a whole vibe. ...okay, hitting play fast today, lol .

"Were We In Love?" That keeps coming up in different ways with different characters this season. But you only ask that question, or even think about it, or care, if you really do love each other. Lilah had an evil job, and enjoyed it quite a bit, apparently, but she also had something the other people around her at W&H didn't -- a sense of justice, and her own self-respect not tied to just going along with whatever her bosses wanted. She wasn't a blind follower, she made her own decisions when she could, including to spike the plan (or kill the boss!) when it suited her. Her relationship with Wes was her choice, a bit of mixing business with pleasure, yes, and her firm allowed it on that basis, but still she came to love his dedication to justice and moral compass, despite giving him endless ribbing and jokes at his expense about how bad he was doing. I mean she would do that with the people around her, but she had zero respect for the people at work. She loved Wes, despite herself and her career of evil. She was really turned on by Wesely, not just for his body, but for his manly struggle, his nobility of purpose, and his struggle with his own conscience. She really enjoyed bringing out the beast in him, sexually, and the lengths he would go to get the job done, even though it really cost him. She may have seen him as her counterpart on the other side, and that their struggles and setbacks gave them a way to bond. She wanted to give him pleasure, wanted to blow his mind, coming up with naughty games to get him excited, she loved seeing him wanting her ferociously, giving in to desire -- desire for her. Wes acting as Faith's watcher, the kind she needs-- no scolding, no hand holding, just tell her to get ready, point her at the vamp's, let her get hurt, let her do her job, was great to see. He thinks Angelus killed Lilah, and that pisses him off, and brought him back to the job, stop the vampires, the demons, the forces of darkness. She is the Slayer. His slayer, his responsibility. Angelus, on the other hand, saved Faith from the Beast, (with a stab in the back, like the scummy traitorous asshole he is), because he really wants to torture her, that is his thing. Also he wants to drink her blood while she's alive, feel her terror. That's also his thing. Plus he really hates not being the center of attention.

And with this episode, AtS edged ahead of BtVS in the broken glass count, with 4925 windows to 4924.

Antonio

At least we have Faith.

The Testimony of Mushroom

Its like a cycle. The trauma makes us forget and the show is interesting and fun; then Cordelia is kissing her baby daddy - omgwtfbbq!

The Testimony of Mushroom

She deserves the peace and quiet after her revelation about the stunt coordinator on True Lies. That was absolutely insane.

MaggieStormborn

I THOUGHT SHE LOOKED FAMILIAR!

anna

I feel like the fact that they needed Faith was such a confidence boost for her, because she always felt overshadowed by Buffy, and for the first time ever she's the one people turn to for help.

anna

Did Lilah actually love Wes??? Yes she did, well she loved him as much as she possibly could... I mean if she had to choose between her career at W.R.H. and him she would definitely choose her career... But in her own way she did love him... I think in a normal relationship the goal is to find someone you can love even beyond yourself... And to be loved like that in return... So although she wasn't able to give that kind of love, she gave what she could... I mean they went from Kinky Hate Sex to risking their lives for each other... 🤣🤣🤣

Bryan J Brown

There was never a chance of Lilah becoming a vampire, since she was killed by non-vampiric means. So even if Wesley couldn't bring himself to cut her head off, she still never could have arisen that way. The characters don't know that since they don't know it was actually Cordelia who killed her. The way you just straight Noped out of the end speaks volumes more than any lengthy diatribe could have done. It seemed like you put it together during the episode, but you didn't have time to dwell, so just in case you didn't make the connections: The knife that the woman in the prison used to attack Faith is the same knife that the Bringers use, particularly while killing the Potential Slayers. This attack was part of the First's campaign to wipe out the Slayer line completely. To give an answer to a behind-the-scenes question you asked, the reason Charisma Carpenter (the actress) is being written to do all of these things is because she became pregnant in real life. They had to incorporate that into the series. But more than that, Joss Whedon -- in a seriously gross development -- was VERY angry that she wouldn't get an abortion so he wouldn't need to re-write his planned stories. He's a petty and vindictive man, so a large part of this season was him taking real-life revenge on her to punish her. This is why he keeps making her act out scenes that are very uncomfortable. The pregnancy re-write was public knowledge when the show was airing, but the vendetta news didn't break until only a few years ago.

I liked this episode's juxtaposition of Wesley finally acknowledging his self-loathing, along with Faith apparently having had come to terms with her own. She no longer despises herself, and she's self-aware enough to realize that she owes Angel a debt of thanks for this. In response to your question, Alien: Earth is hot garbage. Nonsensical plot, cringe acting, and painfully awkward expository dialogue. The only good thing about it is the set design, which expertly captures the retro-tech aesthetic of the original 1979 Alien movie.

Gaius Frakking Baltar

I could watch Faith kick Connor's ass on repeat and never tire of it.

Jorgalorg

Alien Earth is a show set in the alien universe, a few years before the Nostromo goes on its special little mission for idiots. It's great so far; I feel like there haven't been any good Alien properties since Isolation. It's Alien, Aliens and Alien Isolation for me, everything else has been middling at best, but Alien Earth is breaking the trend. Loving it.

Jorgalorg

Faith's escape from prison is fucking iconic! I too thought they were gonna do a more quiet planned out escape, but she just went "step away from the glass buddy I'm breaking out right here right now in front of all the guards cause they can't stop me", BADASS!

anna

Quite a contrast between that opening-credits feeling--- and that closing-credits feeling! :) Fun fact: Eliza Dushku--- putting Connor in his place as Faith Lehane--- is one year *younger* than Vincent Kartheiser. :D Something I just noticed today: the moment when conscience-ghost "Lilah" begins talking about "not giving up on someone no matter how far he or she has fallen"--- is clearly the moment Wesley realizes who he needs to call. Lastly, lookin' ahead (to the very near future): it really kinda sux that there's no chance we'll see Slayer Faith in the NEW REBOOT--- as Eliza Dushku has entirely retired from acting. :(

the gasp i gusped seeing this, forgetting its an upload time

thevoidbender

Oh. I almost forgot... Season 3: The son is here, the son is gone, the son has returned. Season 4: The sun is here, the sun is gone, the sun has returned.

Steve Quast

No. You did not see Eliza Dushku as Faith in the opening credits. You saw Elisa Shmushku as....Hope. As in, I hope you didn't get spoiled.... oh well doesn't matter. Anyway, again the ending somewhat taints what is otherwise an amazing episode. The Cordelia/Connor thing is blegh, but everything else is so good. Love having Faith back and her interactions with everyone else in this episode was top tier. I also get a little chill when Wesley introduces her as "Faith, the vampire slayer." Back in season three of Buffy, she was so jealous of Buffy and everything she was. Now that she's reformed she gets to be the hero of her own story. She's officially stepped out of Buffy's shadow and come into her own. And we love to see it.

Steve Quast

I have been really excited for this reaction. Faith has diligently stayed in prison to do her time, despite knowing the world may be ending, but breaking out the moment she hears the only person who never gave up on her, Angel, genuinely needs her - is just *chef kiss* fantastic.

MaggieStormborn

The inmate, who attacks Faith is portrayed by Spice Williams, the actress who played the cop/Order of Taraka assassin in Buffy S2E10 ‘Whats My Line: Part 2’.

James Smith

No freaking way. I knew this reaction was coming soon, but, no freaking way it's here already. Must watch!

Steve Quast

I've really liked Alien Earth so far. I also liked the Alien movies generally, though. Plus Legion was one of my favorites shows of all time, also by Noah Hawley. Fargo was good, too.

Jason Lee

One of the best episodes in the series IMO. Cannot wait to rewatch later when I finish work !
