Angel: 4x7 Full Reaction

"Apocalypse, Nowish"

Angel: 4x7 Full Reaction

Comments

I'm very late but I don't hate this episode either.

Kazza

It would be just as disgusting to me because Cordy was like a mother to him, and Angel/Cordy were in love. The age gap is just a small factor in this vom-worthy scene.

Dante

My god, it feels good to see somebody else hating this as much as I did. Finally, I pass the torch along.

Dante

lol you wild for this. But all this will make sense and will be explained so i hope yall told her to just keep watching

assCrackBandit

Exactly. There is a purpose. You have to pay attention, and figure out the bigger picture with the beast. Yes you are supposed to be disgusted and ticked off. They totally intended it that way. Don't be too upset to not go on. Don't hate on Cordy.... just try to understand. That's all I can say without giving away spoilers.

Morgan Williams

yeah, season 4 suuuuuucks. I haven't seen in in so long that I forgot about all the interesting things that are going and still to come because all the bad stuff just ruins it.

Tim Goens

Girl, it was a great episode up until that last scene. The first watch it was so awkward and uncomfortable. I know you’re mad, but things will come to light. It’s just a rough spot in the season to get through until the arc has been fully completed. But I understand your feelings! A lot of fans were confused as much as you are. You are not alone! Hang in there!

Whitney Mercer

Lmaoo, not the Condelia crashout at the end! 🤣💀 Say what you will about the dynamics of the relationship, at least they had the best plan for the apocalypse.

Test User

"what the fuck is going on with this season" pretty much sums it up. 😂

anna

You're not alone. This was a rough point in the show and the fan response when it aired was very similar to how you're feeling now. I often wonder what this storyline would have been like if the show cast an older actor to play Connor... say late 20's/early 30's, someone closer in visible age to David Boreanaz. Tall, dark, handsome, heroic... I'm thinking of an actor like Joe Manganiello in his True Blood era (if that reference makes sense). Instead of spending 18 years in Quor'toth, the writers could have made it 28 years instead. It'd be more interesting to see a fully adult son interacting with a fully adult father, and it's the kind of weird dynamic that can only exist in a supernatural/sci-fi show like this. It would have also made the Connor/Cordy storyline seem much less icky. It might have helped because you'd have a strong adult Connor who is more age-appropriate for Cordelia, and someone who would embody all of the things that attracts her to Angel. Her interest in Connor would feel more understandable. The angsty teen Connor might have worked in a different storyline, but this wasn't the right arc for these characters/actors. Hold on though, this is definitely a series low point, but there's some good stuff ahead in the season.

Righteous Outrage Cass is the best Cass, lol. Seriously though, the Cordonnor romance was a crime against humanity. Years later, Charisma Carpenter said that "It was a very difficult storyline. I thought it was so awful, and so creepy, and predatory of Cordelia. Just destroyed me. I was just so ardently against it."

I'm enjoying your angry reaction. Am I a bad person? lol. Anyways still putting in my minority opinion that I love the season overall just to counterbalance all the hate comments (about the season, not you) that's sure to bombard your videos this season. :) But feel free to hate it if you want, of course. I enjoy reactors when they decide for themselves what they like. Such as you loving season 7 of Buffy, even though it's not a fan favorite. Or not jumping on the Xander hate wagon. It's one of the reasons you're at the top of things I want to watch!

Jonathan Hall

I think it was discussed on an other episode (I forget) but part of I think what makes it feel so icky (besides the obvious) is the actors ages. Like it makes it look way worse bc they don’t look near the same age. The actors are a good decade or so apart when the characters are probably like a couple years max apart (he’s assumed to be 17-19 and she’s around 21-23) so she looks like she could be his mom instead of just a little older than him.

thevoidbender

I’m so glad to be the ordinary one, who DIDNT hate the episode. It was just another great episode of this show and the story arc continued….fire rain, red, glowy, ram-headed monster, what does it all mean. The. End.

Andrea Frank

OK, this time, I'll just keep the warning simpler... It gets CRAZIER!

Chris Carman

This is my least favourite season of the Buffyverse and I haven't rewatched it since I was a kid. Watching it as an adult is even more icky so I'm 100 percent with you in not enjoying it. There is a few things coming up I think you'll enjoy at least but yeah.. season five is really good! haha

So multiple points: 1. The glasses thing was Wesley turning it back on Lilah. They're always playing power games and she said she didn't care if he thought about Fred because she knows he will be in her bed each night. When he says to keep the glasses on, it's him trying to take the power back. She has a moment of embarrassment before she puts them back on and gets into it, again trying to back the power. Their entire relationship is one upping each other and angry orgasms. 2. Yes, you are supposed to feel how Angel feels - how the f**k is this happening and every reason why not is supposed to be your response. The show is following Angel and this is possibly the worst thing that has ever happened to him (that didn't involve Buffy). 3. The Fandom was *freaking* out when this was airing, I assure you.

MaggieStormborn

Wesley helping the group and him dual wielding pistols followed by pulling out the shotgun was good. The Connor/Cordelia stuff is not great. Also I know that Connor is only 18, but Cordy's response basically being 'I know you like me, and I will go along with this because nothing matters anymore' is rough.

James Smith

Yes, I am with you. Cordi has to tell Conner, that this relationship is only platonic. Would hate if this is going any further. 🤣 and trust the writing.

Gregor

Don't worry - everyone hates the Connor/Cordelia situation, and you're definitely meant to. It's gross, weird, and feels vaguely incestuous. There's a lot to love about this season going forward, but even as someone who likes Angel more than Buffy, this is a painful point in the show. I physically cringe every time I see the end of this episode. This season is controversial mainly for this plot point, but it's got some great stuff in it, so please don't write it off yet🙏Just know that everyone is with you in hating this situation.

Jordan McLaren

While that particular story arc is the low point of Angel, there actually are some really good episodes ahead.

Fenhorn

Think there’s a time to unravel all the BTS stuff but from Cass’ perspective this all could be spoilery for rest of season 4

Isaiah Bryant

Oh Cass, we all knew you were going to HATE the ending to this episode. I would have warned you but we didn't want to spoil things. If anything, you took this better than I expected. We all hated this when it first happened. I do think it will ultimately make "sense", but there were a thousand other things the story could have done that also would have made sense without angering all of us along the way. The rest of the episode is quite good. It builds off what has come before and really sets the stage for this new threat that has been looming for several episodes now. The design of the creature and the overwhelming sense of dread helps sell the seriousness and scale of it. Instead of just "Another Ultimate Evil", it feels like the characters are facing something new that they are unprepared for. But the Connor/Cordy scene does kinda taint everything else.

Season 3 in a nutshell: "The Father Will Kill the Son" Oh no! How horrible! How tragic! Season 4 in a nutshell: Kill the son, Angel! KILL THE SON!

Steve Quast

Oh no, please. You don't have to apologize. If anything, we should say we're sorry for making you watch that atrocious scene! "React to Angel!" we said. "It'll be fun!" we said. What did we know? lmao So, most of the episode is actually pretty cool, I think. I like all the apocalyptic stuff going on. I like our new beastie friend who seems pretty formidable, if not indestructible. But that ending.... BLEGH!! UGH!! NUCLEAR GAG! No, no, no, no, no. And yes, we are SO SORRY Angel! I can't even imagine... Yeah, that ending is gross and it taints what would otherwise be a pretty cool episode. I mean we had Satan himself (okay, not really "Satan," but a doppelganger of some kind) wreaking havoc, yet the most Satanic thing we see is....THAT SCENE. I guess we'll see how the rest of the season goes. You may get angry. You make get nauseous, you may go insane, but at least you won't be bored! (Those are my predictions) CHEERS!

Steve Quast

The entire Jurassic Park trilogy was out, so they could have had a triple feature lol. But NO. Instead we get THIS.

Steve Quast

Probably my favourite scene in both shows. Top 2 at least, tied-ish with Graduation Day 1.

Preaching to the Horse's Mouth

in as plain of language as possible: Charisma Carpenter became pregnant unexpectedly-- at least by the writers and show runners (and Joss). Joss and the team had to scrap their scripts and plans for this season. Joss Whedon is an egomaniacal, petulant child when it comes to his art and, when rewriting the season to accommodate Charismas pregnancy, included this as what I would call a epically immature "F.U." to both the actress and her character for ruining his show.

Brandon Scott

LMAO yeah why DIDN'T she take him to the movies. what year was it? was jurassic park 2 out? but yeah, i think outrage/disgust is the natural reaction to this weird development it's hard to talk about this without spoiling, but generally speaking even with the benefit of having seen the whole show, i still don't like this. it's weird, it feels incestuous, and the lilah stuff... i really think lilah would have been the type to either walk away or keep the glasses off, even break them, when wes said that.
