The old world meaning of slouching is "a stooping carriage in standing and walking" and it infers that one is taking one's time, getting there but not rushing it.

Fun easter egg, the song Cordelia sings in this episode is the same song she sang in Buffy 1x09 "The Puppet Show" on stage

Say whatever else you want about amnesia storylines but the way the episode is shot and the story told, not to mention the music, makes it so creepy and almost even off-putting that I just have come down in the side of it being really well done. The more I watch it the more I appreciate it, it really exemplifies the shades of grey that is Angel the series.

I swear I felt déjà vu when you talked about the YouTube comments lately. I feel like people being weird and awful is recurring more and more often. I did always like the way Lilah played Wesley here. There was a period in seasons two and three where it seemed like Lilah -- and W&H in general -- suffered defeat after defeat, and it was necessary to see her get a CONCRETE win to remind everybody "Remember, these villains are supposed to be DANGEROUS". Plus it was a great moment to see Wesley stumble when he's putting so much effort into pretending that he's confident and self-assured. I'm not AS sold by Cordelia choosing Connor over Angel, because while she is technically correct that he told the truth while Angel lied to her, the sum total of Angel's "lies" were pleasant sweetnothings over the course of a few hours. Not even a full day. He COULDN'T have gotten everything out in that time, and he didn't know where to start. I do agree Angel handled it poorly, but not poorly enough for Cordelia to view him as "a liar".

I've always hated amnesia as a plot device, even before I watched Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (whose whole plot depends on showing how memory is so complicated and interdependent that true amnesia is nearly impossible). To me, it always feels contrived. Combine that with another cliche that sets my teeth on edge, everybody lying to one character 'for their own good,' it's amazing that I still like this episode.

I wonder how many viewers back in the day saw the episode title and thought it was going to be a nice happy Christmas story, lol. Btw, "Slouching towards Bethlehem" is a reference to the final line of the apocalyptic W.B. Yeats poem, "The Second Coming": And what rough beast, its hour come round at last, Slouches towards Bethlehem to be born?
