Buffy the Vampire Slayer: 6x21 Full Reaction

"Two To Go"

Buffy the Vampire Slayer: 6x21 Full Reaction

I joined JUST to see your face at the end of this episode (and the next one) and I’m so happy I did. Being in my 50s when I started watching quite late in its original run (on TNT but also watching S7 on UPN) I like Seasons 5-6-7 the best. Although I love them ALL I related less to the “teen angst” in the earlier shows. I appreciated it as parody but my memory of my own feelings of that age were murky so less connected. Of COURSE Giles was ME! My favorite TV ever and I was really surprised as I grew to love it.

Yeah it's long been seen as a sign of nerddom, because wearing floods is one of the hallmarks of people who aren't sufficiently concerned with their outward appearance of fashion choices.

Cory Stanish

"Is this the effects of Willow coming", well there was lots of vibration

David Allan

One of the reasons I so look forward to seeing reactions to the last shot of this episode is because my friends and I got spoiled for it when it first aired. Some troll posted on our message board the day before "Giles shows up and stops Willow at the end of the next episode." Wherever that person is right now, I hope they're having a rotten day. 😠

Your reaction to Giles tops your reaction to finding out that OMWF was a musical.

Floods are pants that are a bit too short at the ankle, so they don't reach the top of shoes. Like think in between capri length and regular jean length. Basically, it was people who wore jeans too short for them and the joke was that even if it flooded the jeans wouldn't get wet.

thevoidbender

Probably the best character entrance of all time

Captain Hammer

"Floods" are what we called pants that were too short at the hem (because you could walk through a flood and they wouldn't get wet).

The history of the show is that the villain dies right after getting what they wanted, or just before they get it. Willow at first wanted vengeance, but now she wants something else. Power. Perverted amusement, a game of cat and mouse with everyone she is mad at -- and she's mad at everyone. I kinda root for Dark Willow. She has that season 2 Spike energy, up for a fight, for raising some hell. I like the "prey becomes predator" turn. She wants to play, and play rough. She even thought about "playing" with Dawn -- a true "ick" moment for her, right after she got done "playing" with Rack. The fight in the Magic Box was just brutal and on so many levels. Willow was destroying her friendships, her self, her love of magic, her old life, all at the same time spitting facts at the gang they didn't want to hear. They smash up a lot of buildings in this show, pretty tough on infrastructure.

I adhere to the theory that there are no bad people, there are good and bad actions. If a person organizes genocide of other people, does that make him bad? I don't think so. And I'm not talking about the balance of good/bad actions, but about the fact that a person is a complex being, he always has a choice. The real world is full of people who do terrible things, and they have certain reasons for doing so. That's why I don't even consider Warren bad. He's just... a person. Maybe a sociopath in a sense, but how many "normal" people are there in the world and who can be considered normal? I'm all for the fact that you don't need to feel bad because you approve of certain actions or words of Jonathan. He's not a bad person, no worse than Willow, who even before becoming dark, did enough harm and never suffered punishment for anything. Of course, this does not apply to vampires, they do not have a soul and this directly affects their way of thinking and acting, not just the demon, which, in my opinion, plays even less importance than the selfish impulses of an ordinary person who was given the super strength, super endurance and health of a vampire, who, moreover, can only be killed in a limited number of ways.

Cass' attempts to not get clipped mentioning Willow "coming" were hilarious. Personally I love Willow's Dark Phoenix era, especially Alyson's acting. The whole monologue at Rack's trap house is so good, but that "and, now, Willow's a junkie" inflection is just 🤌. EDIT: Alyson, not Lisa! Too many Hannigans!

When Giles showed up at the end, I realised how much this season I had been thinking "Help! We need an adult!"

One thing that does grind me about this episode is how Xander continues to make everything about HIM. Anya at least does snap back and deconstruct a lot of his self-pitying remarks, but not all of them. And he just....irritates me. Dawn's frequently called a whiner (And Willow's remarks in this episode were a direct response to a lot of fan remarks made at the time), but Xander whines just as much as she does and the show never calls him out on it. I still blame him 100% for the problems with Anya and their relationship. And the way he still keeps sniping at her is just gross. Making EVERYTHING she does be about him. I also think it was a mistake for her to sleep with Spike, but it's HER mistake. It was not something she did to Xander, or did ABOUT Xander.

I knew -- I KNEW -- that you'd lose it at Giles' return at the end of the episode. You did not disappoint. Jonathan's been doing the bare-minimum for a few episodes now, objecting to the worst excesses of the Trio (sometimes) and stepping forward to help Buffy (a little). But always just a little too late. He sometimes mitigates the problems, but he never prevents the problems. He still hasn't turned that corner. I love that transition in this episode when Willow teleports them from Rack's place to the Magic Shop. They rotate, the camera rotates with them, the background changes, but we don't NOTICE until the characters themselves notice. That's one of the better perspective shots in the entire series.

Eh, Buffy came in through where Clem was waiting, she let him off the hook

Christopher Drakulich

Cass seeing Giles=best reaction ever!!!

Christopher Drakulich

I have been waiting for this one ❤️

You are one of the best reactors I have watched. I love listening to your breakdowns of episodes and theories of what is to come. What you have right and what is wrong, but having to remain silent on both sides.

Douglas Robertson

Greatest all-time entrance by Giles when needed most! ...and yeah, Clem is probably extra freaked out by now...

Michael Labs

"Guess who's here to fuck you up now!"

Preaching to the Horse's Mouth

The big recap is because this aired as a 2 hour finale.
