The relativity is all screwed up - his brain equates his early childhood with his first few days at Lumon because they are the early learning times for both versions of Petey. (edit: posted twice thinking I lost the first one, seems appropriate to leave two versions that are not quite reintegrated)

Even though the two Peteys started there loves at different times his brain equates his early childhood with his first few days working at Lumon. This means he has trouble connecting a random day when he went to work as an outie with the same day he worked as an innie.
