'Fifty Shades of Grey' Full Movie Reaction

'Fifty Shades of Grey' Full Movie Reaction

Comments

Haven't watched the reaction yet but I've seen the film, and agreed Limepie, some characters and the cinematography (and IMO Dakota) are all this film has going for it and are aspects of it that I actually enjoyed. I too went in with the lowest expectations possible so I was glad there were at least some elements of it that I enjoyed. I do have to give director Sam Taylor Johnson her flowers though, she did the best she could with a terrible story. Both her and Dakota have been very open and vocal about the fact that Sam's original vision for the film was VERY different but she got bulldozed by the author who wanted basically full creative control and how they clashed every single day of shooting. Sadly, because the books are really not at all good, with the author at the helm the film ended up what it is, and Sam didn't have much of a chance in the end to bring her vision for it to life. She did the best she could with what she had and I'll always really respect her for that. And I'm not surprised she didn't want anything to do with the sequels!

Melissa Reynolds

Agreed! She's a brilliant actress!

Interesting watching this again after 10 years, glad to be watching it with you instead of alone because there was so many moments where i was cringing/uncomfortable and i just looked at you and our facial expression were matching so often which made me laugh. Great reaction! praying your youtube edit will stay up! ♥

Love me some Dakota Johnson, she's such an excellent dramatic actress. But Dakota also has some comedic chops, here's a hilarious skit from one of her guest-host appearances on SNL: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MuhfhRMOFLE

lol this was a tough watch but i paid $3.97 to rent it with you. we had very similar reactions, i also find jamie dornan utterly unbelievable and icky but i thought that was just because i'm gay so it's nice to see you had the same reaction lmao. i feel like this story could have been really good if christian was just fully a villain and it was about ana finding her own strength/confidence OR if it was written more accurately and emotionally healthy/deeper so that i could root for their dynamic and not be creeped out by christian, but alas here we are

Will this be the next 'I'd Survive' podcast?

Great. I guess I'm rated "R" then.

I usually watch the film first before watching a reaction to it if I've never seen it before, but I never would have made it through this film on my own. Going in with low expectations was definitely the move though because I too enjoyed the characters and cinematography more than I thought I would. I think your reactions also made it a lot more enjoyable (especially during the small plane scene lol). Regarding your question about the worst films out there, I can definitely name a few that are worse than this one, but the worst one has to be 'Vampire Vixens from Venus' (1995). Unlike a lot of bad films out there that can be enjoyed for the irony, this one is just an utter waste of time.

Lime Pie

Cass I wish you the best of luck with the YouTube edit, and I would LOVE to get a glimpse at that fanfic you wrote, but I cannot join you on this movie watch. This is a rabbit hole I can't walk with you. Godspeed!
