Man it's hard not to feel bad for Holtz. The things Angelus did to him, yikes. In a whole show about redemption and grey areas, having the current villain with something of a noble, redemptive cause while our current hero is the one who hurt him but is currently seeking his own forgiveness... It's all just fun and jumbled and interesting as hell

That beautiful and brief moment near the end where Wes laughs at his fears is so poignant. You feel that after the talking hamburger god (LOVE the talking hambuger god!) and the intense moral hair-splitting (I've had enough of Holtz, too. It is the low scary voice), he's regained his faith in Angel and everything is going to be alright. Then 5 seconds later that's snatched away. A very Joss Whedon move. I don't understand the last line, either. πŸ˜•

Some small thoughts; Coworker relationships were less acceptable in the 90s, the greater acceptance is a development within the last 20 years when we factor in that we spend a third of our lives in the workplace and (hopefully) another third sleeping. The hamburger thing? It was one of the Loa that Wesley contacted using the hamburger statue as something to ride (possess). The Loa are, from my recollection of lore, rather capricious and may easily be offended if the rules and requirements of contacting such are not followed. So... yeah... temperamental. Looking forward to seeing the developments.

Absolutely! Perfect look!

I agree that the Fred/Gunn/Wesley "conflict" is weird, since Wesley hasn't ordered them not to date or even implied that he might. So they're jumping to major conclusions by even having the "What if we have to choose?" discussion. Other than that I love this episode. Primarily seeing Wesley get absolutely CRUSHED under the weight of the knowledge he has. Desperately looking for some sort of loophole in the prophecy and willing to kill himself to find it. That moment where Wesley makes the decision to believe in Angel and stop worrying about the prophecy, only to have the portents happen RIGHT THEN, is one of the best moments in the whole series for me. It does feel like Wesley COULD have had a mental breakdown, even though that wasn't what it actually was. Regarding Holtz and his vendetta, he's never hinted that he thinks Angel may not deserve his revenge. He's said that Angel deserves MORE revenge since now he can feel guilt in a way that Angelus couldn't. So he's been planning something heavier and deeper than just killing him. That's why he doesn't just try to kill him and be done with it. Also regarding Holtz, please note how Angel keeps saying that Holtz is a good man and on the right side. Even now. Angel is willing to fight back against him to protect his loved ones, but even there he doesn't say Holtz has 'turned evil'. He may have started his own little anti-vampire cult, but if this show were from somebody else's perspective we may call that a good thing. Think of the Watcher's Council: We find them annoying and hate how callously they treat the Slayer, but our protagonists still work with them because they're on the side of Good against Evil. Like Holtz himself said in this episode, things aren't always as simple as Black and White. Let's see if he STAYS on the side of the good in the future...

Your sparkly pink eyeshadow is so pretty.

It's possible that Angel was talking about his own blood at the end when he joked about having something to snack on. I disagree with you about Holtz being annoying. I find his character incredibly interesting because a part of me is rooting for him, which is very unique for a villain in the Buffyverse, and Keith Szarabajka's performance, especially in this episode when he is talking to Sahjhan and Wesley, seals the deal for me.

I like this episode. In particular the hamburger statue is a great example of the 'Angel' world; where something that is mundane is actually part of the hidden mystical world and the scene of Wesley talking to the hamburger statue is inherently funny while the characters play it dead serious. Also like all the focus on Lilah, building up her character is great.

I have been so hype for this episode. The entire back half of this season. The entire back half of this series starting here, if I'm being real honest. But then I've also been known to make such crazy statements as "I might even enjoy Angel The Series a little more than BtVS, depending on which day you ask me." So by no means am I an unbiased observer either lol Now the bad news: I'm stuck at work!πŸ˜ πŸ˜† 5-ish hours, I can do this!
