Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind: Full Movie Reaction

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind: Full Movie Reaction

Comments

Hey Cass. First, thanks for this one! In the 20 yrs since seeing this, I had forgotten how much I LOVED the movie. I think it hit even more squarely this time around! Second, I hope you never truly worry how a particular reaction will come across while you are doing it. I think some folks make sure to say things, as if to prove "see? I'm reacting!!" You have always been way more genuine. And that is why I am here on Patreon (and I assume others share this reason). So don't ever worry about how you come across while watching.

Joined to watch. Looking forward to it.

A great film that does incredible things with its concept. But not one that I had seen before, nor one I'd probably have checked out on my own.

James Smith

Being John Malkovich is one of my favorite films too.

Robin Gibbons

This sure is a treat! I honestly didn't expect you to ever react to this film because I assumed you would have already seen it. I think the film chose to play the credits so late in because they mark the beginning of Joel's storyline, just after seeing Clementine with another guy.

Lime Pie

Easily my favorite love story...starring my favorite actress, Kate Winslet. Good shit.

Steve Mercier

This is one of my favourite movies. I'm not normally into traditional rom-coms because I tend to find them trite and kind of one note, but when they're disguised as an entirely different genre, they work really well. There's so much depth here, and it's pretty much impossible to pick up on all of the subtleties the first time through, so it holds up very well to rewatches (only the second time, you're already aware of what's going on in the beginning). I find their relationship so much more real and believable than so many other film relationships. Charlie Kaufman is an incredible screenwriter. This and Adaptation are among my favourites, and Being John Malkovich isn't far behind.

I love this film so much - it's easily in my top 10 of all time. The direction and performances are all so good, and it makes me cry every time πŸ’” Don't worry about being a bit lost for a while; the first time viewing is always a bit confusing, but it just makes repeat viewings more powerful πŸ’œ

the fact that you had never seen this before shakes me to my core

One tragic, but beautiful piece of storytelling that I think you missed (or I missed you mention it) was that he didn't know the name Clementine or the "Hey my darling..." song when they second met. But his mom would sing it to him and he said being bathed in the sink was a favorite memory... so he lost the places/events/memories where he tried to hide her - including those scenes with his mom.

Oh, so exciting between this and Buffy! Eternal Sunshine is one of my all time favorite movies. Saw it in the theaters when it first came out and it's just as good today. It's definitely the type of movie that you'll need to watch more than once to really understand how brilliant it is. Can't wait to see this reaction!
