I think Fred's crush is more just sort of hero worship, because Angel was her knight in shining armor who rescued her from literal hell. It's sweet but sets her up to be hurt potentially :(
I also love that Cordy seems to immediately notice the difference in Angel even when he doesn't immediately say anything that strange. She knows him very well and just KNOWS right away.
I love seeing DB get to play someone else - as well as the older actor playing Angel - one of my favorite things in any supernaturally themed show, when it's well done. :)
There's a certain vulnerability in Lilah just before she and "Angel" start making out that makes me feel for her, makes me sympathize with her. She's wondering if she can use this somehow, but she's clearly scared of him. And then he proves that fear right.
This is a one-off episode, but a fun one. Enjoyed your reaction. :)

It's not dissimilar to the the tongue in cheek season 1 finale title, To Shanshu in LA. If Shanshu means both to live and die, then To Shanshu in LA translates as To Live and Die in LA, a play on the title of an 80s movie by the same name.

OMG! Did you grow up in a cultural desert, how do you not know who Charlton Heston is. He plays Moses in The Ten Commandments and stared in Ben- Hur two of the most epic movies of the 50's πππ

If carpe diem means seize the day then carpe noctem would translate as seize the night ie Marcus' attempt to become a young party-goer again

What I really like about this episode is David getting to play a different character. Its always fun when the lead actor gets to do something different for a little bit. Sarah Michelle Gellar got to be Faith for a little bit in S4, David Boreanaz gets to be Angelus for flashbacks occasionally but this was another way for him to show off some different acting.
What it really reminds me of is 'Smallville' when Tom Welling would do some of his best acting when Clark was turned evil, mind controlled, possessed, or in some way altered for an episode or so.

Cass, have I ever told you you're a very beautiful woman?
Even though you don't know who Charlton Heston is π

I love that you're into Wolfram and Hart and rooting for Lilah. Lilah is one of those characters you just love to hate and enjoy every time she's on screen.

Probably the only episode in season 3 that is even slightly meh for me, and even then it's still a perfectly fine Case of the Week that's fun enough, and then the big bombshell at the end. I often appreciate how some variation of this play is one this universe uses often, finding ways to keep the MotW/CotW episodes tied in with the bigger storylines.
I've made no bones about how much I like Angel the series such that it's almost tied with BtVS for me, and this is probably one of my favourite stretches coming up now that we're past this very minor speed bump of an episode.

This one always reminds of "The Tale of the Body Thief" by Anne Rice.
